Wondering which IR camera takes the best night photos. Reading the reviews does not seem reliable so I thought you guys would know best. Battery life would also be something I am concerned about.

As far as good battery power and life.

I have been using 4 of the Moultrie I40s. Last year I ran the cameras all summer and up to the 1st of November before switching batteries they were dipping into the 60% range so then I ran the new batteries the last half of Nov. then they sat all winter at home in my house and now they have been running since May and they have logged 1000s of pictures between the 4, I believe last week most of them were in the 70+ % range as far as battery life.

    Picture quality – very good

Day time great pictures, and night pictures being Infra red are all black & white I like the cameras and been very lucky with having no problems to speak of – other than a memory card issue I had once – my fault I created folder on a card keeping the sweet pics in it – the cameras don’t like folders on the memory cards – this causes a big delay ion trigger fire. So always swap cards replacing with a empty card – swap cards and save your favorites in your computer or devise then clean or delete all pics off the card and it’s ready for camera again.

I originally went with Infra red cameras because that’s all some of the folks in the big buck country would use versus white flash, does the flash affect the deer ? I know a feller that has a bunch of repeat pics using a Cuddy white flash and it doesn’t seem to bother those deer and a few are in the 130-160 range that he has. I will say when I have to walk by his camera at night the flash is dang bright “wow”

One other comment I also leaned towards Infra Red for theft reasons – I was told even by the shop owners that these were the ultimate and undetectable – cool they may stay in the tree longer – yes and no if you were walking by a IR Moultrie it’s very- very possible you could walk by and never know you have just had a camera take your picture – because none of the surrounding brush or objects will show any sign ( versus the big white blast from the flash of a normal white flash camera) the only time someone may see that his picture has been taken is if he happens to be looking directly in the direction of the camera when it goes off, what he is going to see is not a flash of any sort white or red that lights up the whole area but instead what he’s going to see, is as if you hit your brakes on your car and seen a “dim red” brake light the red 1” x 3” window will turn red as like a brake light – easy for you to see if looking at it, but the intensity of it does not light up the area like your brake lights can do.

Here are a few quick samples of night pictures from the Moultrie I40s

I echo JDX comments on the Moultrie I40. It also takes excellent video at night

My vote is still out on the Bushnell Trophy Cam.

Still testing. Honestly, I have not had a lot of time with this Camera. I got two of them and they have been out on two different pieces of property with a couple guys from the site. One in WI and one in MN over a bear bait. Brad has been checking those cameras, so I have not had a lot of footage from them or much experience in dealing with them. That is why my vote is still out.

The reason I ask is because I like the size of it but was concerned if it took good IR photos since there are a lot fewer LED’s than the Moultree.

I believe it takes almost as good as the Moultrie. Here are a few night time (IR) pics from the one month I had my camera.
