Used the thermacell for the first time tonight out bearhunting. Quite impressed to tell you the truth. One thing I noticied though is that is smoked quite a bit and as far as being odorless I am not quite sure about. I would have paid money saying I smelt something coming out of that even though it says odorless. Just wondering your thoughts. Probably already a topic about this so sorry to repeat if there was. Just wonder if you think Bears can smell or notice this.

The odor (smoke) it emits is that of a flower that comes natural in the woods. I forget the name of it.

It’s an exact chemical copy (man-made) of compounds that make up the chrysanthemum flower.

If you’re concerned about the smell it emits, as Pat said, the Earth Scented variety would be a good option. Though I don’t have any experience yet with the earth-scented variety, they’re standard issue for me whenever the mosquitos get bad!

It won’t light ? Sometimes mine take 1 or 2 pushes and the next one takes 10-15… I have 4 of them…

On top of the unit is a small window that allows the user to see the tiny glow showing the butane is ignited.

I have best results by clicking the starter 3-4 times and then I click it again while holding it down until it ignites.

Also another couple key elements of using the thermacell is laying it flat on its back and if there is a breeze put it slightly up wind from you for optimum performance.

When I first started using mine, I had problems getting it to light. Then, for some unknown reason, I read the instructions. If you turn it on, wait a couple seconds, then push the start button rapidly 3 to 5 times, it will light every time. At least mine does.

Yes, 2 of my 4 work that way… the other 2 have a mind of their own They do always eventually light though… the 2 that take some coaxing are used on the deck at the cabin….. can’t have all that “clicking” in the woods…

NOt that this matters but I see they changed the wording on the packages also. I bought mine last thursday at wal mart and went back today to look for a couple things and they had new camo models out there, and they don’t say odorless on them anymore.

Wow! Bought two yesterday and used 1 last night. 4 bites going out to stand and not a sign of one while in stand. Let me tell you, Mosquitos love me and I swell up like a pumpkin and this thing worked! Love it!

I wish I had the pic of me from opener last year… Its a pretty good snapshot of what I look like when those beasts find me..
