Interesting problem to have….

I have a bear trip scheduled for Newfoundland next June. We can take two bears per person (hopefully). I’m thinking about taking both my bow and a rifle or muzzleloader. (And fly rods for huge brookies and salmon!!! )

Looking at gun cases, Cabelas makes a nice one (bulletproof line) that holds two guns and a bow, or two bows. This would allow me to take both weapons. (at airline overweight baggage charges, of course, although I would get that with any gun case I deal with due to dimensions alone) Which leads me to wonder which firearm I would take. Do I take the Muzzlelaoder? (TC Encore) which shoots awesome, sports really nice open sights and/or a nice 1x scope. The problem here is that air Canada doesn’t allow gun powder/pellets on aircraft as far as I can tell…

hmmm.. Do I make sure the guide has triple 7’s available, or do I just forget the hastle and go with a rifle… I could take the .30-06, but it might be more fun to buy another barrel for the TC.. Especially since we could probably put both my and my buddies bow in that case, and still have room for a broken down TC. Interesting… Now, if I go that route, what barrel should I get?

I already have a .30-06 and a .243 rifle. Do I go with a mag cartridge like the .300 mag (I already have the ’06, so not a major difference)… Do I get something smaller like a .270 that my kids will be able to shoot a little easier when they get older? Do I go with something like a 7mm mag? Do I forget the gun altogether and go with the bow only?? I’d hate to get another barrel that duplicates my other rifles and/or won’t be of much use at later dates… I’d also hate to go much smaller than .270… But it WOULD be nice to have another deer sized caliber rifle around for when the kids/wife want to go along.

    Hmmmm… Lots of choices…

I would just take the .30-06. The muzzleloader is too risky.

I shoot a .270 for deer and yotes. I absolutely love it.

The reason that I am thinking of taking the Encore with a rifle barrel (vs a full sized rifle like my 06) is that I can probably break it down and find room in the case even if we take two bows. I’m not sure I could fit two bows and 1 piece, full-sized rifle in the same case… Two bows and the broken down Encore should be do-able (I think. I’ll have to check further when I get the case next week…)

    Fun to think about anyway…
