This is an email that I got from my sister in law. My niece is going through a little bit of rough time right now. How about some IDO helping thoughts.

Hello! Just wanted to give everyone an update on Kaci’s condition. For those of you who didn’t know already, she is in the hospital to try and get her seizures under control with medication. She was brought by ambulance to the e.r. on Thursday night, Saturday morning, and Sunday night for having cluster seizures, some of which lasted more than five minutes. Kachi is diagnosed with Juvenile Myochlonic Epilepsy, which is just a seizure disorder that begins during teenage years. She will most likely live with this the rest of her life, but we are hoping we find some meds that will keep her from having the seizures so she can get back to some normalcy. Hopefully, if things go well today, she will be able to come home tomorrow (wednesday), so please keep your fingers crossed for her. We are also waiting to get more information on the MRI that she had yesterday. It looks as though there may be a spot on her brain that is of some concern (that’s what the doctors say) so they are going to compare it with the EEG she had done at the beginning of August to see if it has anything at all to do with her seizures. We will keep you posted when we find out more.

    Thanks everyone.

Sorry to hear Prieser. I have a cousin who is living with a form of epilepsy and has been suffering her entire life with seizures. At the age when they decided her brain was done developing and growing (I believe it was near age 20) they brought her up to the mayo clinic and they were able to “zap” some of the areas in her brain that had the neurons that kept firing erratically. From what I understand is they didnt cure the disease, but they were able to fix the bad areas and her seizures have disappeared to this point. I think she is going on 2 years now. I am sure my cousin is still on medication, and I believe it depends on locations of these reactions but if they can locate them and it is a safe area of the brain it can be very successful. Its a miserable feeling to think what your niece has to go through, my thoughts are with her, and I hope the docs can pull off another miracle.

    Wish her the best.

Well with any luck Kaci is turning a corner. From her mom today.

Good morning all! I wanted to thank you for your support while kaci was in the hospital. We are waiting on her nuerology team right now, but she should b able to come home today since she hasn’t had any seizures for 24 hours. So, it is a good day so far. Hopefully these meds will help now and she can go on with her little teenage life as normal as possible. Thanks again for you love and support……it really makes a difference!!!!

Thanks again for the prayers and thoughts, it’s working!!!!!

Just a quick update. Kaci is still doing great, I finally got to talk to her today. She has not had a siezure since 09-01-09 But….she thinks that she will have to change her medication again (allergic reaction ) So, let hope the new meds will keep everything in check and no reactions either.

I told her that I was really proud of her for keeping her spirits up. A 16 year old life has to be just hectic. It is hard enough to fit in these days and then throw in dating/boys/work/no car/mom and dad/friends etc, etc. She has grown up a ton in the last month. Keep the thoughts coming everyone.

Thanks for the update Preiser. I’m glad to hear that Kaci is doing better. I agree – That’s a lot to go through for anyone much less a teenager.
