I got to thinking a little about some of the questions pertaining to Bluff Bucks last Sunday at the GTG. So I thought I would enlighten some of the folks that didn’t have the opportunity to get involved in the conversation.

First off Buffalo County WI is about as close as you can get to Gods Country as they say, especially if you find yourself engulfed in the mini mountains as I would refer to them – the statement Bluffs just seems to mild, now the folks that have a chance to sit on a mountain side somewhere in this vast world that’s a rush but this is pretty darn close to the same awe that you will experience.

It is so cool to be 150 yards up on a break in these bluffs and hear the echo of two bucks going at it down below you or at times another 100 yards above you and when theses big boys go at it you would swear there were a pair of mountain goats smashing into each other, it just gets crazy!

What I love the most is when you have the chance to see some of the view of the valleys down below or even the next ridge across the valley. To be able to sit 40 yards off the top of these big ridges and it’s seems like miles to the bottom you are defiantly in your happy place.

What really makes this place special is the age of the deer, they just tend to get older and that’s due to the terrain you go up one side and if spotted they go down the other side. They don’t get that size and age from making mistakes. That’s why hooking up with someone that has the knowledge in the land and how deer react to changes in the season, weather, and hunting pressure can really make your trip of a lifetime a more memorable experience.

I have known Butch Fox prior to ever going to Buffalo County, Butch for years on end has been one of the elite archery shops in the Central WI specializing in Martin Archery equipment as well as having the talent to tweak on the many other brands, if he wasn’t working on someone’s equipment at the shop he would more than likely be found in Buffalo County. I believe he has spent most of his life hunting in Buffalo

In time he started Bluff Bucks Outfitters, and for the most part I would say he’s got to be one of the best or if not, right up there with the best there is. He now maintains a vast amount of property insuring that over pressuring an area can be eliminated or at least managed, and in turn some very impressive bucks are harvested every season! I still remember how cool I thought his first cabin was years ago but now you get there and wow you are in for a treat. The treat? is that – it’s the big picture, the camaraderie, the hunt. Picture a really cool cabin with a loft, monster deer mounted everywhere, very clean showers, food that’s totally awesome – plan on gaining a few pounds even with all the walking! And most of all —- The dedication from Butch and his crew trying their darndest to get you hooked up on the buck of a lifetime and more so a monster that exceeds all of your expectations because if that moment happens, you’re in for a rush of a lifetime with memories that will last for generations.

This is all real, and with that remember you still have to do your part, practice and prepare yourself for the trip and approach this with the mentality to take it all in, have fun and the buck will then be the icing on the cake!

There are never any guarantees to harvesting that Monster Buck but they will defiantly work hard to make your trip a trip of a lifetime and have that dream come true!

    Good luck to all!

Great post Jeff. I could not have written it better myself. I will try and get some new pictures out soon from the Cameras. I just got off the phone with Butch and looks like all will be ready for the opener with the addition. Should be a great season and it is only right around the corner.

WOW! I’m even more impressed with BBO and looking forward to my own Hunts in Buffalo County (not with BBO).
Thanks Jeff for the description of what I have to look forward to. Brad and I hung a stand back in early August for a all day Rut stand on top of one of these Bluffs (mini mountains) in a lil clearing. The site was amazing in August. I can’t even imagine what it will be like at the end of October and beginning of November with the cool autumn air and the sound of antlers crashing.

Some lucky IDO Hunting member is really going to be in for a treat!
