Guys from up north have been saying they’ve been seeing fawns now for about 2 weeks, I’ve yet to see one here. Im just wondering if the fawns are dropped earlier up there because the growing seasons shorter so they can nurse then be able to feed for winter. Two weeks ago for around here would be early, they should be starting to show up soon. Hardly any does walking around right now at dusk like they normally do, infact the field across the street hasen’t had any in it for that the last week and no turkeys eigther. Whats the fawn report in your area?

I was driving home from work on Friday. Saw something in the road, looked like road kill so I swerved around it. As i was passing it, this little fawn stands up and tries walking the rest of the way across the road!!

Little thing either couldn’t stand the tar, or just couldn’t get used to its new legs.

I jam on the brakes, and whip around since this side road is being used by lots of dump trucks hauling dirt.

I toss the flashers on and stop a car coming right us.. This lady wasn’t to impressed with me at the moment.

I’m hoping it hasn’t been hit… As I bend over to pick it up she lets out a scream letting me know she doesn’t want me around!

I pick her up and walk her off of the road into the little patch of woods on a well worn deer trail.

Now the lady and a couple of guys in dump trucks had stopped to take a look at the little fawn. We all commented on how we’ve never seen or held one this small.

After gently placing her back into the woods took these 2 quick photos. Momma wasn’t more than 30 yrds away watching us.

Wished her luck and went on our marry ways!

I never saw the fawn or momma, but I am guessing I found a birthing bed yesterday. We went out to find some more shrooms and found what looked like a huge scrape. After a little closer inspection we found a lot of hairs, doe and fawn hoof prints and a lot of browse that were clipped off at ground level around the bed. Pretty neat. My buddy did see a doe and a fawn in that same area later on yesterday.

Unfortunately I found a dead one next to my cabin driveway over the weekend.

My brother was morel picking and had one of two fawns follow him. He didn’t want to touch it, but didn’t think anyone would believe him so he took a picture with his cell phone of him petting it. Pretty strange…

That is very very cool. I once walked up on one all curled up and flat to the ground. I put my hand out towards his nose,, it’t nose twitched a little and it laid back down.. I didn’t want to bother him much but did zip home to get a camera but momma rounded him up by the time I got back.
