I love those rods. I currently have 4 of them. I throw cranks, ‘traps, spinnerbaits and swim jigs with them. I believe you’ll love them If you don’t, send them to me. I’ll pay the shipping.

As for topwater, I like something with a little more backbone in the middle. I’d recommend the rod, but it looks like St. Croix doesn’t offer it any longer.

They are one of the best Buzzer rods around, I have switched to the Loomis crankbait rods for my cranks but still use the glass for buzzers. They also work great for fishing Northerns using suckers etc.

Blue Fleck do you find these rods strong enough to throw a swim jig back in the pads or eel grass and fight the fish back to the boat?

Eel grass…sure. Pads…probably not so much. Like I say not enough backbone for my taste.

Nice rods, but not enough back bone to get a good bass out of the thick stuff!

I am a big fan of the glass St. Croix rods too. However, I pretty much limit them to shallow cranks and small topwaters.

Using them on baits like lipless cranks, swim jigs, and jerkbaits is just way too much work. I prefer to beef up my rod and compensate with the drag.

Hi, Im new to this forum and I fish for bass since 30 years ago (Im 37 now) in the South Border of Texas.
I bet you love those rods!!! Im looking for a standard Crankbait and Rattlin Rod. I need it for 3/8 crankbaits and those 1/2 Rattlin Baits. St Croix has the PREMIER CRANKBAIT RODS and PREMIER GLASS CRANKBAIT RODS. Theyre almost the same $110 to $120. Do you think there is a big difference between these two rods? The only thing I know is that the Glass one is much heavier!!!

    I wil appreciate your response.

    First off, welcome to IDO.

I have the PC70MM. That’s the Premier Crankbait rod. That thing’s a buggy whip. It’s a great rod for lipless cranks, but I don’t much care for it as a crankbait rod. It’s too soft for my liking. Even though they say the lure weight is 1/4 – 5/8oz.

The PC70MHM might be a better suited model, but I haven’t tried it, so I can’t say for sure. The only thing is, the PC70MHM is .5oz from the 7ft. Glass version.

I agree with Tom, the M action graphite cranking rod is more a ML in my opinion, I love it for small cranks, shad raps, etc., but the MHM is much more of an all around rod, and IMO much better with anything over 1/4 to maybe 3/8 oz.

Personally, I prefer the moderate action graphite to the glass crankin rods.
