I have always been told to shoot with both eyes open when shooting a shotgun, talked to a buddy the other day who closes one eye much like shooting through a scope. Is there a so called right way, or whatever is comfortable and works for each.

i believe its a whatever works for you case i have to close my left eye to shoot right handed because im left eye dominant but thats just what works for me you can try it both ways but sometimes i think i shoot with both eyes closed

I know when you are shooting trap you are supposed to shoot with both eyes open because it is easier to follow your target. As far as shooting slugs I don’t know.

I know when I shoot trap I have both eyes open, it is easier to pick up on which way it will fly. Im not real sure about when I’m bird hunting, at that time it is just instinct. When I shoot my deer rifles my eye is always close.
On those notes, if you can start out with both eyes open it is safer that way you can see if something else is moving around the object moving, ie. another hunter. less chance of getting tunnel vision at looking only at what you are shooting.

I shoot a scoped rifle with both eyes open too.
