President Obama has appointed an animal activist to a high position!! You can read about it Here .

If they ever stooped to this level of stupidity, this thing would backfire ten fold in my opinion and be a huge setback to the wildlife population.

Time and time again these idiots fail to realize that us sportsman help sustain the wildlife population. Without selective harvest the population would be out of control, and with this, opens up a whole new list of problems for the activists to whine about.

Claims that hunting is just for human recreation and doesn’t serve any greater purpose than that!

The following paragraph is a quote from the paper he wrote.

    Cass R. Sunstein
    THE LAW SCHOOL
    THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO

“We might ban hunting altogether, at least if its sole purpose is
human recreation. (Should animals be hunted and killed simply because people enjoy
hunting and killing them? The issue might be different if hunting and killing could be
justified as having important functions, such as control of populations or protection of
    human beings against animal violence.)”

It looks to me like he’s talking about being mean or mistreating animals that are in our care more than trying to stop hunting. He gives us an out where controlling populations is concerned. I guess we have to prove we aren’t just killing for sport but also to keep the population under control???

I don’t know…that’s not what I got out of it. He is talking about ALL animals having rights…not just dogs and cats here. And he states I believe that he would be for banning hunting.

    I have one question:

How many more incidents have to happen, “like the plane hitting a flock of geese the other day and emergency landing in the Hudson River” before people realize that hunting controls over-populations of animals and saves human lives?

    It is a sad day.

Or to jump on Gobblers thought. How many Deer vs Car accidents and or deaths need to happen before these people realize????????

I think the insurance companies would raise a lot hell if we were to stop hunting. Besides that look at all the revenue that would be lost if hunting were banned. I really don’t think it would be possible.

I think insurance companies would simply raise our premiums.

Well I’ll be. Replace “animals” with guns or bullets and there you go. People always claim “that will never happen” or as long as they don’t ban shotguns (or maybe in this case deer hunting) I don’t care.

Well as extreme as this sounds it is something to be prepared to defend. Remember when $2 gas sounded expensive? Now that we’ve had $4 gas the $2 stuff seems a good deal. Don’t let our hunting privileges be $2 or $4 gas!

Topics of outdoor interest that have an impact on us are important. I am glad that it was brought to my attention. Now with that being said, lets not turn it into bashing.

He claims all animals have rights and should be without human control (ie: hunting). The animals should not be tortured or abused…what does he think starvation and disease will do?

    Good point Don.

Guys (and gals), As long as these threads don’t turn into bashing political parties, slandering persons, or attacking each other or each others beliefs, we can have these discussion on IDO. Stick to discussing the issues and having an intelligent debate, and these threads can continue. Turn this into another “attack thread” and it will be locked up.

Individual members who continually ignore this rule on IDO will be suspended or banned. Those are the individuals who refuse to debate in a civil manner, and those are the ones who force us to have some of the strict rules we do.

Think before you type. Thank you.

I agree, this is possibly very threatening news to us outdoorsmen. I have never heard of this guy, but he doesn’t sound promising to us.

But the one thing to keep in mind is that we don’t even know who wrote this article for the ussportsmen.com. One would assume that this person did their research, but you never know.

Either way, we may be in for some trying times.

As Much as I see this as a Bad thing. with the economy in the shape it’s in can they really afford to do this? I mean if they were to ban hunting, think of what that would do. They think it’s bad now? Well take the people who are spending money out of the equation and see what happens. DNR resources around the country would Drop. Sporting good stores would really find out what hard times mean, and hotels restaurants, well some of those major days they count on for making it through the year would be gone. Right now it seems some of the largest groups still spending money are the hunters. Tell them they can’t do what they want to do, and spend their money?! Seems like that would be the worst way to fix the economy.

I agree, I never intended for it to be political and should not have mentioned the appointee by name, but no matter who would be in charge I feel all sportsman should know about this and would have brought it up. I also think that if they tried to ban hunting the economy would take a major blow, and unemployment would sky rocket, so it’s kind of a catch 22, how bad is this guy into PETA, and how far would he be willing to go for his beliefs?
