I was looking at getting a Puggle (Pug/Beagle cross) mainly for tagging along and possibly shed hunting. I would rather have a lab or retriever, but I live/own a smaller home in town and don’t want to coop one of those guys up. Does anyone out there have any advice or stories on puggles?

Being it is part beagle it is going to have some run in it. As long as you can give the dog good exercise or play time each day. may be a good choice for smaller home, it probably won’t get any bigger than 25lbs.

Well here’s my take on it. A pug really has no useful hunting or outdoor qualities. Really it’s diluting the usefulness of a Beagle. I think you’re probably going to end up with a house dog that really not good at anything but companionship (not that that a bad thing). If you want an outdoor dog, then maybe look for something small breed that’s bred for outdoor work. Just remember that size doesn’t equate to energy level and exercise needs. Small dogs need just as much exercise as big dogs

If I were looking for a small dog that I needed to have some hunt in it, I would look no further than Jack Russell. Big dog in a small dog body. Tons of energy, though, so excercise would be a major requirement…….

Sounds like your just looking for a buddy. If so go to the pound and pick one that looks right.
