I’m back in SD for Xmas. What a riot. Got 2/3 of my pheasant limit on the way out here…with the expedition. Absolutely amazing numbers of pheasants.

My dad has been talking about the recovering number of snow shoe rabbits or “jack” rabbits. I’ve been chasing them with the .17 caliber the last few days. What a riot!!! They run out about 150 yards and stop. They are dead before they know it.

If you have a late season pheasant hunt planned, enjoy. The numbers are unbelievable this year. I could have limited multiple times while out rabbit hunting.

Kooty, that sounds like a hoot. I talked to a buddy of mine that was out there last weekend, after they got their birds they did the same thing, lets just say he is really having fun with his new AR . We are talking about going out for a weekend of “bunny huntin.”

Wow, that sounds like a lot of fun! What kind of weather is it there this time of year? Snow? My neighbor mentioned possibly going after pheasant again as they hit bad weather the first time. It’s only a 6-7 hour drive to where he goes and it sounds like it might be worth it.

There is quite a bit of snow out here. Making walking a work out for a fat kid like me. However, with the snow and wind, it makes the pheasants very, very predictable. Any thicket with food nearby is loaded with birds. I can see 5-50 birds out my dads window at any given point during the day. I was able to get another 8 rabbits yesterday. Can’t wait to get out this afternoon!!

I have never experienced hunting any type of game like that. Let me tell you it almost hard to fathom. If it were not for a trip through South Dakota this May seeing all the dang pheasants for myself I’d be tempted to ask if you’ve been drinking!

Have fun hunting though. And please keep the stories flowing here. Makes for good reading for some of us.
