Anyone have problems with the gas operated piston, especially with the spring inside the piston breaking? I’ve had two in about 5 years that have broken and Winchester/Browning is not willing to warranty…any ideas?

I had a Browning Gold 3 1/2 and have had over 2500 rounds through it. I never had a problem with the gun. I never had the spring break and most of the shells were 3 1/5 heavy steel loads.

I’ve normally shoot up 2-3 cases of 3 1/2″ a season and my X2 is fine. Been shooting it for probably 6 years and I don’t think I have ever even had it jam. It does miss sometimes though!!! I know lots of guys with the X2 and have never heard of a single complaint.

Is this happening on the same gun or have you had bad experiences with two different guns? I have noticed rust build up on the gas chamber spring if I abuse the gun on a trip and leave it in the case for a week, but I just clean it up real good and it’s fine.

Never had a spring break just one firing pin but that was after a boat load of cases of shells. I use it for trap as well as hunting. Only problem I have had that is why I bought another one.

I had, and I stress had a Browning Gold 3.5 inch gun. The problem I had with it was it picked up a ton of crap in the gun, weed seeds, dirt, debris, that would require a complete tear down (about 2 hours worth) a few times a season. It was simply too much work during the busiest time of the year, so I got rid of it.

It worked well with the larger shells, but when I went to anything less then a 3 inch magnum shell, it was unreliable at best. I could not stomach a gun that costs that much, that I have no confidence in if it will work on the next cycle.

I went to a Benelli SBEII and have had no problems with it. I do think it comes down to how you use the gun. I expected the Gold to handle all my wingshooting needs, trap, Pheasant, Duck/Geese, and I did not think it was up to the challenge.

2 hours? Are you split shining the gun? I have stripped the down, cleaned them totally and lubed everything up and it only takes about 20 min tops.

I had my Browning brad new out of the box, never cleaned it. Put it together and went to ND. Shot a case and 1/5 shells through it and never cleaned it. Never had a problem. Maybe it was just that gun though.

I agree. I have had thousands of rounds through my X-2 without a problem, and can field strip it to anything worth cleaning in seconds. A little action and bore cleaner, and it is back killing again.

What am I missing? I had two buddies sell SBE’s to buy an X-2 at that time. The X-3 I know nothing about.

30 minutes tops, start to finish including clean-up.
