I’m in the market for a new semi-auto rifle. Haven’t decided on the caliber yet, but that’s up for discussion. I had ordered an AR from DPMS, .308, but I haven’t heard if it’s done yet or will be done for deer hunting. Anyway, I’m not too “up” on my guns and was wondering if anyone had an opinion on semi-auto’s. Browning? Remington? Will be looking at getting something this week hopefully.

I have 2 Remington 7400’s, one in 30-06, the other a .270. Both work flawlessly for me

Check that BAR out in the classifieds here, I’d like to buy it but just don’t need another one at this time.
I really like the Brownings. Just remember like all gun semi autos more so, keep the clean in and out.

My father and brother both shoot BAR’s and have never had a problem.

I’m going to cast another vote for the BAR. I wish I could come up with an excuse to buy the one listed in the classifieds

I don’t own a semi auto “deer” rifle so you may just disregard what I say. I’d vote for the 7400’s over the BAR for one reason and that is looks. Some love the looks of the BAR, some don’t. I’m actually kind of neutral but I do like the 74’s. Both are, I’m sure, excellent rifles and would serve you well.

The only semi auto I own above .22 caliber is, for now, my SKS. As all are chambered in 7.62×39 they are very capable of bringing down a deer and are extremely reliable. I hope to have the cosmo cleaned off and use it this year just for fun. Another benefit is I have a bayo on it so I can use that in an emergency if I run out of ammo and Bull Winkle is bearing down on me, lol.
