Stand Theives

  • #205552

So I traveled up to the Cabin this weekend to take care of some final food plot work and move a couple of stands. When I went to retrieve on of my stand that I had left hanging from the season before, I came to realize that it had been stolen..

This is the 3rd consecutive year that I have had a stand stolen in the Danbury, WI area. Granted the stands are placed on public land (Which is now legal to do provided you follow the necessary regs), but most of the stands would take some work to get if they really wanted it…For instance 2 years ago, I chained a $50 ladder stand onto a tree, and someone had the nerve to bring a chainsaw into the woods and cut the tree down to steal my stand! This last stand that was stolen(one I purchased at Menards for $25), was in the middle of nowhere, about 1/4 mile from any road, and was very heavy and would have been a pain to get out.

It just makes me a little upset that I have to share the woods with pieces of trash like this. I mean were talking stands worth $25-$50 here! These are not lone wolf stands by any means! (Which by the way I’m now forced to upgrade to, since I can’t leave anything in the woods without fear of it getting taken)

Sorry for the rant, but I just had to vent..(too early in the week for a Coors )

That definately sucks. I would imagine you’re not the only one getting ripped off then…sounds like somebody is making it a habit after the season! Hopefully he (they) will get caught one of these times!

Go ahead and rant and rave…two years ago I got two stands and climbing sticks stolen from a city hunt I was doing…I hope the suns of a guns break a leg from the stands they stole from me and you. all I can say is I hope they rust very quickly and they fall 20ft from the stands …now I own a Lone Wolf hand climber and it will never happen again….on public property…Jay

i feel your pain, next time just take the stand home. its a bit of work, but that way you wont have to worry about losing it. heck, even when i head back to camp for lunch i take down my stand. you dont know who is roaming these woods. and it could be the DNR wardens too, they do not like to see stands out there without people on it. at least here in MN.

    Chowdski,
Sorry to hear the scum suckers took your stands. My nephew also hunts the Danbury area and had his stand ripped off last fall.

I’m a little confused by this statement though.

I hunt on public land in the Hayward area. My interpretation of the rules is the stands need to be taken down each day if its on public land.

    It is illegal to:
    • build or use a ground blind or any elevated device on lands owned or under the control of the DNR unless it does not damage the tree and it is completely removed
from the property each day at the close of hunting hours. This also includes lands enrolled in the Managed Forest Law (MFL) and Forest Crop Law (FCL) programs, however this does not apply to the owners of land enrolled in the program or those who have the landowner’s authorization. All tree stands and ground blinds that are not occupied shall have the owner’s customer ID number or name and address attached in a manner that is visible and legible to a person on the ground. Note: Ground blinds may be constructed entirely of dead vegetation found on the property and do not need to be removed from the property each day.
