Well, as some of you may already know… I am the proud new owner of a new 5th wheel camper. It is a 2008 Puma (by Palamino) 26RLSS 5th wheel fully loaded. I purchased this from Elk River RV. Now, I have two reasons for posting this thread… first, to show off my new purchase. Second, and more importantly, to lament on the OUTSTANDING service I got from the guys at Elk River RV. Now, I have no affiliation with them at all. I know that many business get bad raps that extend through word of mouth and through the web. When I receive customer service to the extent that I did when purchasing my camper, I feel the need to spread that word around as well.

It started out the week before last. I had done a bit of research on the web before venturing out to the feild. I visited about 6 or 7 dealerships before I got to Elk River RV. Needless to say, the lot did not have as many campers as some of the others did… but I wanted to give it a look anyway. Elk River RV is not your normal camper dealer. Lorin Sr. is the owner/operator. He, and everyone that works for him (maybe another 3 or 4 guys) were all former service techs for other dealerships. Their previous jobs were to deal with issues/problems with campers/RVs/etc. I can imagine how much their hands were tied working for large dealerships. They decided to venture out on their own. Talk about a smart move. I know from talking with other dealerships… they are all having a hard time selling anything. One, I heard, hadn’t sold anything since Feb. Elk River RV set a record in May for the most sold… and then broke that record in June. They are expecting similar sales in July. I can only imagine that the reason for this is their outstanding customer service, their willingness to work with the customers, and willingness to cut a deal. The day I stopped there, I had an agreement to purchase a 5th wheel. Talked to the wife, and we decided to go new rather than used… called them back up and they had another to show me. I drove back that night, had an agreement… and by 4 in the afternoon the next day, I was the proud new owner of the below camper. Not only did they get me a great price, but they threw in an entire hitch package and generator. Now, though I am sure they have some pretty cheap hitch packages… they didn’t go cheap. They included a hitch slide for those times you have to back around trees, etc… they included an awesome brake actuater… did all the wiring brand new and even fixed my 7 pin for my horse trailer that had loose wiring. Talk about service!

Well, while I was camping in it… I got a call from Lorin Sr (the owner). They had a bolt sitting on the counter that was to a clamp that holds up my brake lines (not too big a deal… they weren’t dragging, just keeps them in place). He apologized for missing that and told me to come in whenever I had a chance. I did that today. Wasn’t too much out of my way… but for my troubles, he gave me a $50 gift certificate for his place for anything I want… accessories, etc. Now, I am not one to sit on a certificate when I know there are things I could use. So, I shop around and picked out $50 worth of product. I hand him the certificate… he looks at me…hands me back the certificate and told me to come back again and use it… and he GAVE me the products I had just picked out. I could NOT beleive it! I had already purchased the camper and he had no motivation at all to GIVE me anything! throughout my dealings with them they have been very informational with answering all my questions, they have been prompt and exceeded all time frames that I needed them to meet, they gave me free product when I first picked it up (RV toilet paper, septic solutions, etc, etc)… I just can’t say enough about how much effort they put in to making me feel good about my purchase both before and after. As far as customer service goes, I have NEVER dealt with any company better!!!

If you are ever in the market for any type of camper… Stop by their place FIRST!!! You will save yourself a TON of time looking! Nick is the salesman I dealt with… and Lorin Sr was right there as well to help out with everything!

Anyway… on to the pics of my new house on wheels.

HAHAHAHA! I had been considering the Dreamshack or something along those lines… but new… they were a little out of my league on pricing. I didn’t want to go over 20k and I also needed it to be functional for my daughter’s horse events where we camp for a week. I know Dreamshack could come up with something, but it would get pretty pricey!
