I put a Skill Saw blade on my weed whip. Now it takes down anything. Becareful if you go that route though, I had to remove the guard to do it.

Looking for a hunter safety class in the north metro area for my son. It looks to me with the new law changes in MN this year he will be able to deer hunt this fall at age 10. Anyone know of any classes?

Schedule for the entire state can be found here.

Also, something to think about for adults. Many states have started or are in the process of changing rules and making it a requirement for adults to have a Bowhunter Education certificate/course to hunt big game with Archery equipment. If you hunt outside your own state make sure to check the regs for the state your going to hunt in.

The way I read the new regs is that 10 and 11 year olds can hunt without a hunters safety certification.

I believe the minumum age to attend one of the classes is 11.

My son will be 11 – I’m not sure that I’ll let him shoot until he’s 12 anyway.

I’m not sure if your son took the class yet or not, but the Gander Mtn. in Forest lake has them. Dan Porter teaches the class. Awesome instructor and guy. He also works there as well in the hunting/gun area.

Thanks for the info guys. I think Jonathan’s hunting will be limited to hunting from a stand with someone. Hes not ready yet to be walking threw the woods with a loaded gun.

Anyone else getting there kids into deer hunting this year?

Thanks guys. Was able to get Jonathan in a class about a mile down the road a few weeks back. He just finished up the class on Saturday with shooting at Bills gun range in Lino lakes. What a great class. he really go into this and even studied for his test with out being asked. Wish he would do this with school work. Looks like we are headed up to Aitkin next weekend for some more target practice and to take a look at the deer stands.

I need to take this class as an adult(44 yrs old) to go out west. I see there now is an on-line course available for most of it except maybe the hands-on part.

The on line on-line course is much harder to pass, I would highly recommend taking the actual class you will get much more out of it.

Just an FYI- Per page 36 Minnesota hunting regulations:

10 and 11 year olds (1)Must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian(6) Must be under direct supervision and within immediate reach of a parent. Any deer taken must be tagged with the adult’s license.

They need to be 14 before they are permitted to hunt unsupervised.
