Out of 111 million homes only 35 million will be able to watch tonights game One of the biggest games of the season, two 10-1 teams, home field advantage at stake………..What a crock!! When will the NFL network and these cable companies get their act together?

From my understanding the cable co. want to put it in there sports package and then you pay extra for it if you want it. The NFL network wants them to put it in the basic package.

Thats it exactly, the owners seen to never have enough money and this is all about money. My cable bill is high enough and if I wanted an NFL network I dont feel it should be shoved down my throat…..

So, you don’t have a problem with having to pay for WE, Lifetime, Oxygen, HGTV, Soap Network, Jewelry Television, and how many other countless stations you don’t watch? OK, maybe you watch them, I shouldn’t assume you don’t watch EVERY channel you pay for as part of basic cable.

The cable companies argument that they shouldn’t have to include a channel in the basic package that only some people will watch is the STUPIDEST argument I’ve ever heard, and I can’t believe anyone is buying it. There are 20 to 30 channels on the basic package that only appeal to certain people, but everybody pays for them to be there. It is all about the money, but it is about the money for both sides, not just the NFL Network side.

I have to sit through a Corporate Financial Management class for 4 1/2 hours tonight so I won’t get to watch the game anyway, but I’ll be quietly listening to it in the back of the room on my ipod.

I axed big cable a few years ago for big satelite. The NFL having maxed out what they can do in endorsements and ticket sales, now they come after the home viewer. I am watching the game tonight and my bill is less than what I paid for cable. I would switch satelite providers if they didn’t meet my needs and nearly did with DISHnetwork didn’t have BTN and Direct did.

Doesn’t make any sense to me either Bob All the money that is made in the NFL I just can’t figure it out. Smaller market cable companies carry it in our area, but Charter cannot afford the fee the NFL network charges You have to be kidding me!!! One word…JOKE!!! Ted

I’ll take a few extra channels I dont watch (the wife and kids balance some of those channels out), to watch the channels I like, cable provides me with high speed internet, 80 or so channels, local and long distance calling for under $100 bucks a month, was not long ago I was paying $80 bucks a month just for a phone so I am willing to mix in some bad with mostly good for my family and budget….

Centurytel is awesome here in LAX. they give you phone, internet and TV for the price of one. we get NFL, big 10, sportsmans channel, outdoor channel, and vs, all the extras to total some 200 channels..It’s a pretty sweet deal. I can’t wait for the game tonight

Its about time they move the NFL version of 9 man football off of national TV.

At least the Vikings will be on (if they sell a few more tickets).

With many cable companies, like ours (comcast), the NFL network is one of the premium packages which I didn’t opt to buy for $5.99/month extra. HOWEVER, I CAN buy the package this morning, cancel it tomorrow, and then only pay for 1/30th of the $5.99. There is also a fee to do the switching ($1.99 for us), but it was waived since we have been with our cable company for several years now. I actually signed up for it yesterday, just to make sure it is working right, and I had the NFL network active literally within minutes of my phone call.

Isn’t this a classic example of a network that only appeals to certain people? I have to side with the cable companies on this one. The NFL network carries what, a total of 8 games all year? That isn’t much to warrent removing another channel other people watch. For me, this is really the only time this year I plan to watch that network, so I would be pretty unhappy if they axed a different channel that my wife or I watch more regularly. For me, I am paying a grand total of 40 cents to add the NFL Network to my cable for 2 days. People like me are the reason the NFL is fighting so hard to prevent companies from making it a premium, or a pay-per-view station. They don’t want my measly 40 cents once a year, they want $$$!

I’m with cable on this too. I have Charter and the digital sports package. It stinks I can’t get the game but why should everybody pay for a station that is only valuable less than ten days a year. Here is what charter says about the NFL and Big ten network:

Charter Communications and other cable operators around the country have been told by our customers that they want more choice in the programming they pay for, and they want to pay a reasonable price for it. That is at the heart of Charter’s position to not just accept the unreasonable demands being made by the NFL Network and the Big Ten Network for carriage of their Networks on our channel lineup.

We want a reasonable solution for sports fans. Charter wants to carry both of these sports networks for you and we understand the value these networks offer those who enjoy professional and college sports; especially communities that features teams in both Leagues. Although the majority of games are presently on cable, we know that every game is a must-see when it involves a team you follow.

Both the NFL Network and the Big Ten Network publicly state that Charter is withholding games from our customers. We’re grateful that many of you recall that the games now on both League-owned Networks that come with a high-price tag for every cable customer used to be free on broadcast TV. Both networks demand that their programming be part of our Expanded Basic service delivered to virtually all customers, including those not interested in NFL or Big Ten sports. Both the NFL Network and the Big Ten Network have rejected our request to carry their programming on Charter’s fan-based Digital Sports View Tier.

The Big Ten Network and the NFL Network are expensive and we don’t believe that the majority of our Expanded Basic customers should be compelled to absorb the high cost of services they might not have much, if any, interest in. Many of you have told us they agree.

We know that consumers want more choice in what programming channels are available to them more control of the cost for that programming. Carriage of the NFL Network and Big Ten Network on our Digital Sports View Tier would honor that request. However, we must have the two network’s permission. Other cable operators are taking the same position with NFL and Big Ten Network as Charter with the same goal — to make the entertainment service the best value in the marketplace.

Charter believes it should be able to carry the NFL Network and the Big Ten Network for a reasonable monthly fee on our Digital Sports View Tier, where only sports fans who want to watch these Networks pay for it. We believe that’s a reasonable request, and one that respects all your best interests – sports fans and non-sports fans alike.

    Das_bass,

It is a perfect example of a channel that only appeals to certain people, which was my whole point. The majority of their basic cable line-up consists of channels that only appeal to certain people. By subscribing to the basic package, you are paying X amount per channel. I can’t call them and have them remove WE, Oxygen, Lifetime, and whatever other womens channels they built into basic and get a refund since I don’t watch them.

My point was that they shouldn’t say they won’t put it in the basic package because only certain people want to watch the NFL network, because there are plenty of stations in the basic tier that only appeal to certain people but everybody is paying for the channels. If they only had channels in the basic package that appealed to everyone, the only channels in the basic package would be the local channels because the rest of the channels only appeal to certain people.

The real issue is that the cable companies don’t want to pay the NFL network the 40 cents per subscriber (or whatever they charge) when they can’t pass it on to their subscribers if it is in the basic package. I don’t have a problem with it being an add on, I just wish the cable companies would fess up and tell people the real reason they won’t offer it.

Both sides are money grubbing pigs. What they should do is say you want 40 we want free. Meet in the middle and get a freaking deal done. Jon is absolutely right. They have packaged 95 percent crap together and now cry foul. Puleeaaseeeee. Satelite is the same though. consumers should have more discretion in the channels they buy and not be forced to buy 250 channels 241 of which they won’t watch. I have channels in Spanish for pete’s sake. I don’t speak spanish. Who says cable has to take one off to add one too?

We sold over 6 pounds on Sun. and we ate about 3 pounds so far. Almost all of them came from one tree. We were driving up the field road and the wife said she saw some down the hill. Sure enough we backed up and there they were nice big blonde ones. They were on a wide open NE facing hill side. We checked probably 30 other trees and found one here and there. Good Luck

Agree with some more misture and Sunshine, along with some higher temps. We found about 50 the other day but nothing to get excited about.
