I was talking to a buddy about guns yesterday and he mentioned he had heard about something called “sweetening the barrel.” Apparently it involves cleaning the barrel of a new gun with a boresnake after every 2-3 shots for the first 25-30 shots through the gun. It’s sort of like a “break-in” and is supposed to help a little with accuracy. Anyone heard of this? I know it certainly can’t hurt anything so I am going to try it with my new Tikka.

I have also heard about using a round with a little more lead in it during the break in period. Hope someone who knows more will jump in. I did this with my rifle but I don’t know it it worked or not because I’m already an excellent shot. .

I have heard the phrase seasoning the barrel.
