Just wondering if anybody here runs these units. I’m in the market for another camera and I was contemplating the no flash. Wondering what sort of range your getting without a flash, day and night. I’m happy with my flash models but just thought maybe try it???? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Randy.

I like em. I have 2. The range, as far as I can tell, is the same in the day, and I would say at least 40 feet at night, from what I can see by my pic’s. Have fun !!!

I have used the no flash, and would highly recommend getting the I-40 Moultrie, infrared camera. I sold all my cuddes, and replaced with the Moultrie. You can buy two moultries for the price of one cuddeback. WTA

I first bought the regular cudde with the flash..I then wanted another and bought the no flash and did not like the night images at all..they were all washed out and I could not tell if the pics were of bucks or does..Jrat had the same issue before me and brought his back…after the first week of mine I as well brought it back and got another flash..Ive had both flash cuddes for about a year and love em…Jay

I have no experience with the no-flash Cudde, but I agree with WTA in regard to the moultries. I have 2 (I40 and I60) and like them alot. If you do compare the moultrie and end up getting one, make sure you download the latest software on their site.

Thanks guys, On the Moultries, what do they take for batteries and how many. I love the cuddes for battery life. I’m absolutley blown away how long 4 d-cell batteries last even in in below zero weather. Also I know one of cuddes selling points is trigger speed, even with mine I’ve got a few pics of partial deer and it looks as though they’re walking not running. Are you guys happy with the trigger speed of the Moultries and do you get many pics of half of a deer?

WhatI know about the Cuddies is that they have great trigger speed but a very narrow cone angle of detection for triggering the pics. There’s a neat website that does independant testing on various cameras…I’ll try to find it again and post it.

Get a Reconyx. They are hands down the fastest thing out there. The range is great and the battery life is great. I bought mine the beginning of Oct. and I am only on my 3 set of batteries. It has been out every day. I am surprised to hear people saying they like the Moultries. We have had terrible luck with them.

The moultries take 6 D-Cells so there battery life is very good. Depending on the which moultrie you get – the trigger speed is around 1.5 seconds. They do have some issues with whiteout but after I downloaded the newest software, it seemed to fix the problem. These are pretty good cameras for the money.

Here are some sample pics with my no flash moultries.

I have 2 IR units, 1 leaf river and 1 moultrie I40, both IR units give off a red glow from the IR diodes and I have seen it spook deer. You almost have to mount them higher up at a downward angle so the deer doesn’t see it. I can’t get a picture of the glow with a normal camera because of the IR blockers in the lens, but its there.

The reconyx might be the camera they are talking about at http://www.chasingame.com that doesn’t have the red glow- higher freq IR diodes, the higher the freq above 650nm the less visible glow there is. I might keep the I40, but as soon as I find my mods to the leaf river made it better, I’m going to sell it on ebay

I am really surprised to here people say they have good battery life. My son has a Wildview. It burned through the batteries fast at first. We fixed that by hooking it to an old lawn mower pattery that we recharge when needed. We just keep it in a 5 gallon bucket by the tree. I know it is a cheap camera but we are very happy with it.

Some interesting comments. I have never had a picture whiteout, or couldn’t tell what they were, Buck or Doe ??? Maybe they are like all cameras, and you can take good pic’s or bad, depending on how you set it up and use it…
