This snow and ice cover is as bad as I have seen it this mourning I can walk on 2in of snow.I hope we get a warm up fast as this is going to be terrible for the pheasants.I think I am going to pick up some bird food for the song birds if we do not get a thaw soon

Were getting ice right now and we could get up too an inch total of ice by around 2 this afternoon, then its supposed to snow after that. About 1000 people are without power right now and thats expected to go up with more ice accumulations. This storm isn’t as bad as was here last winter but it hasen’t stopped raining, not a good thing for pheasants.

Boy did we get ice. Ice is covering everything and up to 3/8th thick. I drove to the grocery store yesterday and its 14 blocks from my house, every block had limbs down of all sizes. I took a diffrent route both directions and theres power lines from the poles to the houses that are pulled off two houses, seen a limb that took out 30′ of wooden fence. Barracades across roads for powerlines and limbs across the roads. The latest numbers on people without power right in this area is in the thousands and theres Alliant electric service trucks all over repairing what they can. We didn’t get hit as hard as people in the southern Iowa area, they got an inch of ice on everything, alot of people are without power and complete smaller towns are completely without power. Now the winds are coming up to 20 mph and thats going to bring more of those heavey ice covered limbs down.

I got a limb from a soft maple in my back yard that hangs over our powerlines that feed the house and I took a 2″ by 8″ and cut a notch and put it under the main limb to keep it from falling incase the winds want to bring that down. Alot of trees have low hanging limbs that look like a weeping willow does, the limbs hanging straight down. Its supposed to warm into the 30’s next early week.
