Elk in Eastern Nebraska

This elk has been hanging out behind the dam at Branched Oak for a few days now. I seen him today on my way to the boat ramp and snapped a few pics. He was a long way from the road and I zoomed in as far as I could with my camera. Vehicles were stopping on the dam and taking pics all day today. He looks like a decent bull but must have gotten pushed out of a heard maybe in South Dakota. I’m keeping my ears open for any news the Game and Parks has on the elk. There were several rifle hunters in the area today and he didn’t seem to mind them.

Cool. He is probably from one of the reservations in SD. Maybe the Black Hills herd, but highly unlikely. Of course, he could also be private stock, although I think most of the people raising elk have went out of business due to the diseases of recent years.
