I just know that previous fur buyers I’ve used don’t pay nothing for blue furs regardless of size…
That’s all, not trying to make it a debate, “to each there own”October 8, 2007 at 10:45 pm #614668I just know that previous fur buyers I’ve used don’t pay nothing for blue furs regardless of size…
That’s all, not trying to make it a debate, “to each there own”October 9, 2007 at 12:25 am #31946There’s no doubt you have a valid point schweg2. But like Mike said, for most, it’s a double edged sword.
Me, I wait a couple weeks into november. But I have the luxury of sole permission on private ground, besides my own place. Not even dog runners are allowed. And I try to target the adult boars. No blue hides to worry about there.October 9, 2007 at 12:25 am #614682There’s no doubt you have a valid point schweg2. But like Mike said, for most, it’s a double edged sword.

If I had a lot of private ground, I would definitely save that for a little while longer to get the coons when they are more prime. My problem is that I trap 99% public land and it gets hit hard early and then tapers off when it gets cold. Of course that is about the time when the coon movement drops off dramatically
Of course I am to blame for not having the private ground to trap since I don’t go out and get the permission. I learned from deer hunting that getting access to private ground is next to impossibleOctober 9, 2007 at 1:08 am #614702schweg-I agree with what you were saying about the blue skins You have a very valid point about waiting.

October 9, 2007 at 9:54 pm #30862I ended the season with a mere 128 rats. I am hoping to double that this year. If I can get an earlier start, I should be able to do that. I am going to concentrate on coon a lot more this year so hopefully that pans out. An incidental mink or 5 wouldn’t hurt my feelings either
I am also planning on trying my hand at beaver as well. If I can catch a couple beaver this season, I will be very happy. Of course all of this is vry dependant on competition and pressure. With all the gloom and doom fur price predictions for this season, maybe a few people will elect to stay home and wait until the prices get betterOctober 9, 2007 at 9:54 pm #615054I ended the season with a mere 128 rats. October 10, 2007 at 11:22 am #30886I agree AM WAtson, it’s hard to get permission nowadays
I probably would start on opener too if I trapped public with alot of competion…
Looks like rats aren’t going to be worth much this year, maybe you’ll have less competion in that dept?
Good Luck…October 10, 2007 at 11:22 am #615157I agree AM WAtson, it’s hard to get permission nowadays

I just got home from talking with Wiebke Fur in LaCrosse. I learned quite a bit from the conversation on how the market works. It would take me quite awhile to type the process out here though
But, he did inform me that the market at this point is down on just about everything. Until the major players look at the orders from the fur shows that are held in Moscow, Beijing, Milan, and Montreal, expect to receive less than last year.
In talking with other sources and buyers from around the country, rats will likely start in the $2-4 range. Coons will likely start in the $8-10 range for the early coon and also coons in the round. I will have to check on the beaver forecast, but that is a ways off yet. If you target otter, I highly doubt any fur buyer will touch them for awhile. With last years furs not seeling at all, many buyers as well as NAFA are sitting on thousands of otter with no market to sell them.I know some people don’t agree with the theory of trapping regardless of price, but that is what I intend to do. Trapping for me is what fishing and hunting is for others. The only difference is I will be paid to have fun and exercise

There is an old song that says……….“You see, you can’t please everyone, so you got to please yourself”
