I wasnt aware of te new rule on using crossbows in the rifle season.
That opens a new question to me… Would that make it legal to hunt with a crossbow(under firearms license) in archery only areas? For example some city ordinances, special area regulations(wildlife refuges with archery deer allowed, etc).
My fathers last year of hunting was with a crossbow during the archery season with a permit, he also had a permit to shoot from a stationary motor vehicle that was not in a legal right of way or running.
Crossbows are theoreticly good weapons, but very limited in range accuracy. They shoot pretty flat t about 20 yards, from there things get pretty squirrely even with a very high quality crossbow. The broadheads must be tuned perfectly, fletching perfect, and the crossbow string must be perfectly centered or there will be a significant difference in where that arrow hits. A major difference in temperature will also make a person re-sight their crossbow.
More challenge.. I guess.. but very high maintenence. I am not prepared to go spend $500-$700 for a good crossbow and all the equipment to only be comfortable at 20 yards and less. The only real advantage I ca see is if it woud ope up new hunting areas to those hard pressed for a place to hunt if this will allow a person to hunt archry only areas.
