As most of you know, I spent a fair amount of time in the Goose Island area trapping rats. Well, the last day I was there and pulled all my traps. Well, I was one trap short and couldn’t find it. Well today I came home from fishing and there is a stake with a trap attached to it with a note in it. Whoever it was had seen it and kept an eye on it for awhile. He determined since there was no other traps anywhere around it, it must have been inadvertantly left behind. He went on to say when he pulled it it was still set. Since I had my legible trap tags on it, which had my name and address on it, he took the time to deliver it back to me. I just wish he would have left his name or number on it so I could thank him in person I don’t think too many people would have returned the trap to the owner. I was really bothered by the fact that I lost that trap in the first place, but I couldn’t find it for the life of me. Chalk one up for the good guys

I’m glad to hear that you got the trap back. It is good to know that there are people in the world that respect others things and take the initiative to get it back to the owner.

I relived a lot of old memories of trapping in high school 20 years ago from following your post. I hope you do it again next year! February 1, 2007 at 10:46 am #28683This reminds me of the tip up left on the ice post a while back. Where a number of folk would have just called the DNR and let them handle it.
Stuff happens even to the best of sportsmen. Glad you got your trap back Wats…kind deeds seldom go unrewarded.

I few years ago, I was fishing a walleye tourney in northwestern Alberta–Lesser Slave Lake–The Golden Walleye Classic.
Several years before that, I had been involved with the annual Minnesota Governor’s Opener and was given a Stearns flotation jacket, with my name on it and a reference to the year and event also stitched onto it.
I loved that jacket. Warm, water proof, good memories and a way to wear a life-jacket more often than not.
So–I’m drivin’ back to the motel(about 10 miles) from the lake, must have forgot to stow the flotation jacket, and found it GONE. I was sick. My favorite warm jacket! GONE! I backed tracked down both sides the road and found nothing.
About three weeks after I got home, here comes my flotation jacket back home–in the mail! The guy, who was NOT in the tourney and was NOT a fisherman, picked it up off the road, saw my name, tracked down my address, and shipped ‘er back to me! From Alberta to Mille Lacs.
We now exchange Christmas cards each year! THAT still “makes my day”.
