Saturday Hard_hitter and I get out and in our stands a hour and a half before shooting just to lock in our positions on public land. 12 minutes before shoot time along comes another hunter, which started out nice by asking me where other hunters were? I replied there are two of us across this stretch in our party and a third from another party about 200 yards across from us. Told him we were focused on the ground 25 yards to our left and straight out in front of us. Just letting him know where we expected to be doing our shooting. He says thanks and starts his journey straight out in front of us and he stops 75 yards out and sits in a spruce tree. An hour of sitting there I see a nice BUCK I range him at 125 yards, BUT knuckle head is sitting in between me and the buck he has no clue the buck is coming I know I can reach him with a shot but would never take the chance of shooting over the guys head to do so. BUCK either seen him or smelt him and ran for the woods to live another day. I was furious I told the guy where we were focused and he went str8 our there and sat. I spent a hundred dollars in rounds at the range sighting my gun at a hundred yards and going 1 inche above dead center for I was shooting the new Hornady sabot for shotguns that reach out 200 yards with a 6 inch drop. I was furious, but I know public land is for us all to use. But please remember be considerate to your fellow sportsman. There is alot of land in this area for our use and another 50 yards he could have broke over the hill and been in a total area of his own which was still very promising in which he could have had the next shot at the Buck if I would have missed him or not caught him in my eye. Plus he would have been safe from our rounds ever of reaching him.
Totally made me lose my spirit for the opener weekend…

You have to wonder what he was thinking
That is the bad thing about hunting public land.
I’ve had it happen to me quite a few times.

Did you say anything to him? I would have atleast made him aware of what had happened. Most guys are such idiots that he probably didn’t even know.

Sounds like you were far calmer than I would have been.

As much as it made you PO’d, you did the right thing. First off, you probably knew it wasn’t going to be good when you seen someone coming in 12 minutes before shooting time on opening day I know how you felt, I have had it happen also (what the heck….who is headed my way now ), or something like that.
For the dude to walk off in the direction you have already told him you expect the action to be, well you knew you were already dealing with a moron. It just plain sucks, and it does happen often I feel your pain. All you can do is shrug it off It probably won’t be the last time it happens hunting on public land.

With that said, at least you got to vent here, and will hear it happens to a lot of us

No neither one of us said anything due to in todays society to many things like this could end up in a top of the news moment. Testostrone, guns and who knows if he was drinking the night prior and had a hang over. So we just packed it up and thought walking away turning the other cheek is better then someone ending up dead, in jail etc. I like to view myself as a sportsman and walking away was my choice to evade a situation that is not worth it. Lucky for him cause 15 years ago it would have been a way different outlook on my part, hot head with a bad temper, but having kids change a persons view in life alot. Plus growing up a bit helps as well.. But still no deer again today but was unable to do a evening hunt due to moms illness and the threat of her not making it thru the day.
