Hunting Blinds?

I got a Cabela’s hunting blind as a gift this summer. I want to take my 8yr old son bow hunting with me in the blind. It has the shoot through window mesh. Has anyone had problems with it affecting arrow flight? Any pointers on taking an 8 yr old deer hunting for the first time? He is so excited and am extremely nervous! I want it to be a great experience for him!

I have not personally shot out of one of these blinds but know people who have and they have been satisfied with them. I guess the way to know is to put it up and fire one through the screen. This will make you confidant in shooting and confidence is key.

Let us know how is first hunt goes!

I have a Double Bull blind and have no problems shooting through the mesh..remember when hunting deer with a blind to still blend the blind in with branches grasses ets..as if you dont the deer will become spooked…blend it in good or youll have problems…as far as the 8 yrs old..I think its great hes goin..I still remember going bow hunting with my dad at that age…I couldnt hunt but had fun being out there with him…my buddy brings his son and he says a little game boy with head phones are the key…the attention span of and 8 year old just isnt quite long enough if deer arent moving…good luck…Jay

I had my 8 year old out for 4 days of turkey hunting in my Cabelas blind. We had a blast. We had the Gameboy and snacks but it turned out the most fun he had was whittling big sticks into small sticks. Every time we moved there was a huge pile of shavings.

Make sure you close the “back” windows so the deer can’t catch your movement. I found that I kept the back windows totally shut and kept the others half closed. Just barely connect the velcro so it wont take much to open the window all the way to shoot. It seemed to me that on a sunny day , even with the mesh in, you could see movement. That’s why I like to close as much of the window as possible.

BlueFin nailed it with the windows. If you are using them for deer, there are a few things to be aware of so deer will not get spooky. The first is to blend it in a little or a lot.
The second is to watch how you have your windows. Typically, I have a pretty good idea on where the deer are going to be coming from. Knowing that, you will want to keep the windows that you plan to shoot from open. All others you will want to keep closed all the way or at least most of the way. The darker you keep the inside, the less chance the deer will detect you. On my DB blind. I kept 2 windows wide open, 2 with only the mesh up, and the other 4 closed up tight. They are fun to hunt from in my opinion

I would recommmend setting it up in the yard and getting familar with shooting out of it, it is total different than in a stand. The shoot through windows pose no problems on arrow flight ,but it is more of a comfort thing when comes to drawing back and shooting. As others have said make sure you close the back windows and minumize the light inside, you will be amazed how much movement you can get away with if you are quite when when you are moving. Good luck

The boy and I made it out on SAT. Beside the wind and heat it was a good day. We sat for about 5 hrs. He did great for an 8 yr old. We did not see any deer, but we really had fun. First thing Sunday he asked when we could go again! Hopefully I made a lifetime hunting buddy!

I KNOW YOU GUYS ARE BOW HUNTING OUT OF IT NOW, BUT JUST A REMINDER IF YOU USE IT FOR GUN SEASON, PUT SOME ORANGE ON THE OUTSIDE.
