Does anybody have any experiance with a little digger or disk that you put behind an atv? I know yhere are all kinds of them out there but are there any that actually can turn the soil decent? I have some heavy clay ground and dont know what will really dig in. Any good sugestions. Normaly I would use ag tillage but cannot get into those areas.
lets hear the input. Will it be to late this weekend?

I’ve used one in some pretty heavy ground. It was a digger designed for an ATV. We had to pull it with a 700. We had a 500, but it just couldn’t quite do it. It worked really well. I know the disk on the hard clay you will have to go over a couple times though. If the clay is dried out and hard. I know they make a small 1 bottom plow too that I guess works pretty well too. I would suggest renting one before you buy one though.

I USE A DISC PLOW MADE BY SUMMIT CALLED THE PLOT MULE. HERES IS A PIC OF A PLOT I PLANTED IN HEAVY CLAY SOIL IN BELVIDERE ILLINOIS

I ALSO RECCOMMEND A BIOLOGIC DISC MADE BY TUFLINE.

ANY DISC PLOW THAT HAS AN ADJUSTABLE ANGLE ADJUSTMENT ARE THE BEST. THEY CAN ADJUST THE DEGREE OF YOUR DISCS FROM 10 TO 25 DEGREES. i AM ABLE TO CUT INTO THICK CLAY SOD AFTER I MOW FIRST. THEN I SPRAY ROUND UP TO KILL EVERYTHING WAIT TWO WEEKS THEN PLANT MY FOOD PLOTS.

DEPENDING ON WHAT CROP YOU WANT TO PLANT IT MAY BE TOO LATE TO PLANT.MOST FOOD PLOT NEED 90 DAYS FREE OF FROST TO BE ANY GOOD THIS TIME OF YEAR.

BRASSICAS AND CHICORY, OR TURNIPS ARE GOOD THIS LATE IN THE YEAR.

IF YOU NEED ANY HELP OR SUGGESTION PM ME OR EMAIL ME. I OWN A FOOD PLOT MANAGEMENT SERVICE.

HERE ARE SOME LINKS FOR DISCS THAT WILL WORK FOR YOU

I built my own disk for my polaris 700 sportsman. I took the long single disc a friend had layin around on his farm…cut the disc in half so i hace two, and mounted it to a frame i built. I put a trailer hitsh on it and a place to mount 4 blocks for weight. It works well as far as digging up and the ground as long as their isnt a large amount of brush, grass, ect in the way. Ive looked at several commercial brands and they look about the same as mine…i think the key is to be able to get enough weight on the commercial atv types. Also i would recommond having a larger atv 600,700,800…good luck with the plot…remember round up, round up, round up….jay

Round-up is the key. Mow, disc, spray with round-up. Without using round-up you will not get enough soil contact because those ATV’s discs do not disc deep enough.

The winter wheat we planted up North is getting hit hard right now as well is last years clover plantings.

HERES A VIDEO OF THE HIGH SPEED PLOT MULE IN ACTION VIDEO OF PLOT MULE DISC PLOW IN ACTION

The disc plow I have rips through grass even if I dont cut it. I used to have a King Kutter disc plow from Farm and Fleet the disc angles were fixed I had a hard time digging deep into hard compact soils and clay. Now I can do three acres in about two hours even with four inch grass with the adjustable angle feature on the plot mule. I paid 900.00. It has paid for itself in the time it takes me to do my clients properties plus all my own.

The plot mule in this video and the tufline high speed disc are incredible. I pull them with my Arctic Cat 650 vtwin and sometimes my Arctic Cat 400.

This deer was taken off that plot last year.

I haven’t had to mow it this year at all the whitetails keep it mowed for me. I use Imperial Whitetail Institute Alfalfa rack plus and Imperial Whiteail CLover mixed together. I use Arrest and Slay Herbicide to keep the weeds and grasses down.

The farm where I planted this was having a major crop damage problem due to Whitetails and turkey. He wanted me to plant an alternative food source for them. This plot is 1 acre, another with chicory plus by Imperial whitetail institute is 3 acres and then rackmaster brassicas blend is half acre.

All but two of the deer killed last year on this property stomach contents were from the food plots. Years past stomach contents were nothing but corn and soybeans. Crop damage calls have been keeping me busy.
