I am looking to get a hunt together for my dad and me in 2008. It is going to be a comb. elk and mule deer. Does anyone have some contacts. Any info would be appreciated.

I’ve hunted elk a number of times. If you would like to give us some specifics on where you have in mind, bow or rifle, type of hunt preferred (guided, outfitted, DIY) I’m sure you will get some good feedback. One thing I would highly suggest right upfront to do would be to pick an area you would like to hunt, select a draw unit, and APPLY for a preference point NOW!!! By the time 2008 rolls around you will have 3 preference points and will be in a better position to go hunt in a limited draw unit….that usually means less pressure from the “over-the-counter-crowds”, which equates into a more satisfying hunt with better odds of success!
Give some specifics on exactly what you envision for this hunt and I’ll be willing to help all I can.

February 8, 2006 at 2:39 am #14955A friend of mine is a guide here, it’s a great camp with lots of different options. Another friend of mine just went out there last September to film a hunt for his show. From speaking to both of them, it’s about as accomidating as they get. very high success rate and tons of references. In their brochure, they give you all the names of clients from the year before……what camp they hunted, bow/gun, drop camp….etc. It’s worth a look.

February 8, 2006 at 7:14 pm #14962I guess I should have been a little more specific. It will be my dad and myself going on this trip. He will be 61-62 by then. So I am pretty sure that it will need to be a little easier that a hunt at 12,000 feet. Even though I am pretty sure he could out walk me any day. Anyway, I have already decided to take in the shorts and pay for a guided pack in hunt. I don’t want my dads first and probably only elk hunt to be us two wandering around the woods hopeing to find a herd of elk. I am mostly interested in hunting the upper Rockies, Colorado and north. This would most likely be a riffle hunt in Oct. Nov. Thanks again for any info.
