Pyrodex powder

    I use pyrodex and have heard arguments on both sides on wether it harms your gun or not.My gun doesn,t shoot good clean so I ussually leave it dirty till season is over I have heard it will pit barrels and others have said it doesn,t hurt Whats the scoop IDA people Thanks in advance

    Hi Joe – give Triple Seven a chance – a couple patches and it’s clean and you can leave it for a bit. With Pyrodex or Goex you don’t have many options except cleaning it. When I used Pyrodex in my Encore, I would not clean it until every 3rd day, but the gun stayed outside – if you bring it in the house, it WILL sweat and the powder new or burned WILL rust the barrel. Also the lower dollar muzzleloaders have barrles that are a little more porous and will rust quicker. There are many variables involved.

    From first hand experience, Pyrodex WILL pit your barrel Make sure you do not store it with a load in it or dirty. I learned the hard way about that
