I was just wondering if there are any of you guys out there that hunt this way. Started out with this equipment and then kinda got away from it. Now I am back.

December 15, 2005 at 7:20 pm #13276Nice looking bow. I have never tried a long bow or recurve for hunting but I would love to give it a try sometime. I do have a friend that hunts with a long bow that he made himself. He also makes his own arrows. He was bow hunting with his homemade long bows long before bow hunting became so popular. He has arrowed a deer every year since I have known him.
Do you stand hunt with the long bow or do you stalk with it? I have read that it is best to stalk with a long bow. I have no idea why this is. I do know the guy on ESPN who does all the trick shots with a bow uses a long bow. I also know that you have to draw and shoot in one motion as there is no holding back the bow like so many of us have gotten used to with the compound bows.

December 15, 2005 at 7:44 pm #13277I am a tree stand hunter. I have practiced out of my stand and have not had a problem. I keep my skills sharp by bowfishing in the summer. I don’t use this bow, but that old recurve shoots just as good.

December 15, 2005 at 8:06 pm #13278I hunt from the ground, usually against a deadfall or some type of thick cover at my back and always know the wind. Its funny how close deer come to you when everything is in your favor. Had 19 turkeys walk by at 6 yds this fall, never knew I was there.

December 15, 2005 at 11:43 pm #13279That’s all I’ve ever used. Started with a Bear recurve, then other recurves, now a longbow for several years. Bowen 1, would the guy from Lansing by any chance be Dr. R. B.? If so, we went to high school together.
