So, first off, you find youself getting out to the spot you want to duck hunt on the river a little late. You find that where you wanted to go there is already someone there (ME). Do you set up 100 yds away anyway, or move further away to a different spot?
I hope your answer is to find a different spot, at least 150-200 yds away, but this morning the guy who showed up late sets up 100 yds away from me(might have even been 80yds).

Second, the guy you set up too close too has ducks working his dekes, he is calling them and they are circling. On their “final approach” they come lower and swing in front of you at about 45 yds. Do you let them go since they were working the other guys dekes and are actually out of range?

I hope your answer is yes, let them go, they aren’t close enough NOR were they heading for your spread. Not this guy, obviously a true sportsman, he blasts away at them (maybe because he hasn’t had a shot all morning? Neither had I) and they vacate the area unscathed.

I am NOT gonna miss this when I move to Duluth.

This is something that just drives me batty. I get out in plenty of time and some yahoo comes in a half hour before shooting and camps next to me.
I guess it is just something that we have to deal with. I’ve always said that duck hunting truely brings out the worst in some people.

Hate to burst your bubble Bud, but there might not be high speed bass boats with drivers with helmets on…or inconsiderate duck hunters…but there’s just as many ding dongs in the Duluth area (Steve Vick excluded) as there is down south.

Wellbutrine make life more bearable for me at times.

I sure does feel good to vent though.:p

Come to think of it, he did have a funny looking boat and a black motor

I tried to bury the hatchet but you gotta keep pulling it out.

Wade-I know exactly how you feel I will not go into detail, but the last time I went out (2 weeks ago), there were a couple of extreme rude hunters out. I finally had had enough, packed my dekes, ran right up to the rude “hunters”, spun a few donuts right in front of their spread and went home. I stripped the blind off, turned the motor around and put it in storage until the river opens up for trapping. I really don’t want or need to deal with that type of situation. I agree it is public land, but ethics still should be shown. The problem is too many people fighting for too little resource.

FIRST COMPLAINT YOU HAD THIS SEASON WAS 50YDS (WHICH IS TO CLOSE) NEXT IT IS 100 YDS (SORT OF CLOSE) AND THAN IT SHOULD BE 200 YDS ? WHATS NEXT IN THE SAME COUNTY ??,
I WAS OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME SAT MORNING, ALOT OF GUYS DOWN AT GOOSE ISLAND, I WAS A LITTLE LATE ALSO, AFTER I WENT TO QUITE A FEW SPOTS BECAUSE OF ALL THE GUYS, I WAS PULLED ONTO A POINT CLOSE TO SHOOTING TIME, LOOKED OVER HERE COMES A BOAT PULLING ONTO ANOTHER POINT SOUTH OF ME ABOUT 100YDS, NO REAL BIG DEAL HE WAS LATE ALSO, I HAD MY DEKES OUT AND PUT MY BOAT UP THE CHANNEL A WAYS AND WAS WALKING BACK TO THE BLIND AT SHOOTING TIME, NO BIG DEAL.

I KNOW WE ARE NOT THE PEOPLE YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT BECAUSE NEITHER OF US FIRED A SHOT. PRETTY HARD TO DO WHEN EVERYONE ON THE FIRING LINE SKY BUSTS AT THEM AND JUST SENDS THEM TO THE UPPER ELEVATIONS. MY POINT HERE IS THERE IS ALOT OF GUYS OUT THERE THIS TIME OF YEAR AND LIMITED AREAS TO HUNT AND LIMITED NUMBERS OF DUCKS.

I RELIZE THAT YOU GOT UP VERY EARLY AND GOT YOUR SPOT BUT 200 YDS IS A LITTLE PICKY,IF EVERYONE WAS 200 YDS APART YOU WOULD NEED TO HAVE TWICE THE MARSH AND THAT ISN’T THE CASE, THE MARSH AREA IS DISAPPERING AND THE NUMBER OF DUCKS IS WAY DOWN. GO LOOK AT THE FIRING LINE, GUYS ARE PULLING IN RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER AND BLASTING AT EVERYTHING THAT THEY CAN SEE.

LOOKING FORWARD TO RETIREMENT SO I CAN HUNT DURING THE WEEK SO I DON’T HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE CROWDS.

OTHER THAN THAT, I JUST HAVE TO WAIT FOR SOME COLDER WEATHER TO KEEP SOME GUYS HOME, OR THE WEEK OF DEER SEASON WHEN YOU DO GET THE MARSH TO YOURSELF.

GOOD LUCK IN DULUTH, SAME S**T EVERYWHERE DEAL WITH IT.

I could live with the 80 yds if they showed a little restraint, not shooting at everything. 150 yds is good, more is better.

I don’t know how many guys you have hunting around you down there but even 200 yards seems pretty damn close to me.
If you are going to hunt ducks do everyone a favor and get out and scout out spots. I’m quite sure that even down there there are plenty of good backwater areas that are not getting pounded as much as the well known spots. The shooting will probably be much better too.
    My two cents.

maby it would have made more sence to wave him over and invite him into your blind since he was late, then you both would have been able to kill a couple of ducks and maby made a new hunting buddy. but Im just an optimist and dont think everyone in the would “except me” is an unethicle, spot stealing game hog. just my opinion
