I have heard stories of a GIANT elk shot down in New Mexico or Arizona. Heard that it was over 500 inches total. Just wondering if any has a link or picture of this beast yet.

November 2, 2005 at 6:42 pm #11349HOLY CRAP. That is amazing. The other post from ESPN looks like a two year old compared to this monster. Any idea where this was shot. If the guy has to pay a trophy fee, he is going to loose his .

November 2, 2005 at 6:45 pm #11351Here is a link to sme further information on this elk. It was shot on a high fence property so it won’t qualify for B&C or P&Y. I guess SCI has a category for ‘Estate’ kills that it would qualify for. There is a lot of discussion on this kill on the Bowsite.

November 2, 2005 at 10:33 pm #11363Reading the link from Bluefin has me a little confused. Is this shot on a farm or is this a legitimate bull living in a 3000 acre fenced enclosure. To me there is a ton of difference. The thing that makes a guy wonder, is he that great of a hunter to get a huge bull in two consecutive years, or is it shooting “bulls” in a barrel???
Either way, that is a massive bull. Makes a guy want to get out there and do a little hunting. It looks kinda similar to that whitetail I am going to stick this weekend

November 2, 2005 at 11:16 pm #11364another zoo animal,
there is no sport or pride in killing a animal in a fence. fair chase is a sportsmans world. the elk was a great one to bad it had to die at the hands of a nonsportsmanNovember 2, 2005 at 11:16 pm #393777another zoo animal,

I believe these hunts have a place in our society. I’m actually looking for one for my dad. He has diabetes and can’t get around like he did 10 years ago. He has been applying in SD for over 10 years and still hasn’t been drawn. We(my sister’s family and mine) want to get dad an elk before he get’s too old to go. A situation like this offers a high chance of success. Obviously we won’t let him shoot one this big, that bull is worth over $15K easily. We’d be doing dishes for years to come.

November 3, 2005 at 6:48 pm #11426yea, I can’t really label the guy as a non-sportsman, but I don’t think a canned hunt deserves much respect either.
It is a big elk, but there are really big elk too, in the elk farm on Hwy 52, just north of Roch.
There isn’t much difference in shooting this bull, as there is shooting a steer in a cattle yard…….

November 3, 2005 at 10:52 pm #11438Why do people have to make an already big animal seem bigger by sitting 5 feet behind it.
