my pot is stirred. it sounds as if the owners dog was shot on his own property. that being the case his dog has every right to roam his entire land, thats why people in the country have dogs, for the freedom and not being tied to a stake all day. the dog is the owners property and needs to be respected just like the rest of his property. if a farmers cow began coming at you to protect her calf would you shoot it. if there is a problem with an aggresive dog on the property you need to ask the owner if he will restrain it when you hunt, if not you need to find another place to hunt. hunting on someone elses land is a priviledge not a right.

Oh, fully agreed Den!!!!!! Fully agree!!!
Yes, if the dog was shot on the owners property, then yes, this is a terrible tragedy that the guy should be hung by his on.
Same thing applies to the cow/bull charging you. However, if I’m on different property other than where the cow belongs and she charges………….BANG!

October 25, 2005 at 1:41 pm #10978I don’t see a border collie being a threat to anyone or almost anything. They aren’t the hunter like a beagle or terrier and not big enough to do more than annoy a deer. Sounds like an [censored] just out to kill something, anything. You know those types are out there.

you have been misinformed, all dogs will chase deer. you can ask any warden and they will tell you that all breeds will chase deer. the reason they are chasing i can’t answer. border collies herd, so maybe the dog was just trying to herd the deer up? i mean that seriously, they have been known to herd kids in a yard. poodels have been seen chasing deer. chasing is a natural instict for dogs. if you do a little research on the subject i think you will be suupprised to find out little fefe isn’t so sweet when it comes to chasing deer…………tom fOctober 30, 2005 at 11:31 pm #392990gordonk,
