I am going to talk to a couple gun dealers and see if I can get some more details…I am also going to check them out side by side and see which one feels better.

In all honesty, this is the most important thing. Fit is what matters most. The Extrema just didn’t fit me well, nor do Remington’s 11-87’s. The Bennelli’s and the Brownings/Winchester are much better for me. You got to hold em and swing em to know.

I really do not know if a gas operated has less recoil than a recoil operated semi-automatic. On the older models of recoil autos they have to be set for how heavy of a load you are shooting to operate properly. If the spring and spacer are set to absorb the recoil of a heavy load a light load will not have enough enertia to cycle the bolt completely.

Could the newer gas operated autos have less recoil? sure

But generally speaking recoil operated absorbs the recoil to cycle the bolt. Hence the name recoil operated.

They are both great guns. I do own a Beratta.

The gun that fits and feels good is probably the one for you. For the money the Super X2 is a great performing gun.

The SBE is a great gun, I have shot one many times. If your heart is sold on one so be it. But I shot the Winchester Super X2, and I was sold! I shoot 3.5″ mags very often, and I also shoot low brass trap loads. In 5 years, I have not had a missed cycle! And that is the honest truth! The gun can be broken down to it’s basic components in 20 seconds. But so can the SBE. I would at least look at one. Purdy darn sweet gun!

    Chris:

Great to hear about the SX2. I have one on hold at Joe’s right now, but my wife (God bless her) does not want me to sacrifice and wants me to buy the SBEII. Problem is I’m a cheapskate and have trouble warranting $1300 for the SBEII vs. the $750 or so for the SX2. For the difference I can nearly pick up the gun plus a new GPS/Sonar for the boat. Can anyone justify the cost of the SBEII over these types of guns(Extrema and SX2)?

    Thanks,

    $1299 for camo.
Now that I have shot one….it is worth every penny…I love it…I absolutely couldn’t be happier with it. I bought it at Cabin Fever in Victoria…same place the new state record bass was weighed. Jeff is the owner and is a great guy and has a top notch staff…..extremely customer focused.
If you need anything…archery, firearms, shells or fishing equipment….it might not be convenient but the service will more than make up for that…I live in Plymouth and have Gander and Dicks really close……it is worth the drive to Cabin Fever

Hello mate, I have the extrema 2 and the old man has the sbe2. They are both fantastic weapons, we use them for geese all the way down to clay shooting! Before I got my xtrema 2 I borrow’d his sbe2 quite a few times and got on realy well with it. I borrowed a friends extrema 2 on a clay shoot as the old man was also shooting and I found it fitted me loads better and I got on extreemly well with it. as a result, when the time came to buy my own gun I opted for the extrema 2. I find the extrema 2 has a noticable softer recoil when fireing 3.5″ loads due to the kick off system. In summery they are both as good as each other it all depends on which feels right to you.

I live out in victoria and have now Jeff from Cabin Fever a long time. You can not get much better than that. As for the gun they are both great guns and it comes down to how well it fits you.

I have had both guns and the barreta wins for me. I did have a chance to shoot a new sbe side by side with my barreta and the barreta had vey less felt recoil. And gas operated autos do recoil less!
