I have a question for you hunters! my question is I hunted this farm for about 8 years all is great have many ladder stands and 1 enclosed box blind, the farm land I hunt lets others hunt property as well. a few times I have come into box stand came in very quite to find out someone has been in it and closed windows put the office chair all the way down. now to start the hunt I make noise to open windows and raise the chair, (I am 6’5 tall) I built this with the land owners permission it does not bother me that someone sits in it but sure bothers me as they dont leave it as they found it! so heres is my ? would it be wrong to lock the door and be selfish? or might that bother the landowner? I appreciate the land and don’t want to be a a hole what would some of you do? thanks

Sounds innocent enough. I’d leave a nice note asking them to leave everything the way it was.

If you put a lock on it somebody will break in just because it’s locked(it seems these days).
I wouldn’t let a window or a chair being moved get to me….

I get it. My neighbor allows a few our to hunt their land. I have ladderbstands up, and others use them. No big deal to me…except 1 thing. I have totes with rocks on top to keep the seat cushions in when not in use. Others leave them up on the stands and the squirrels tear the crap out of them. I carry enough stuff in, a pair of cushions wasn’t the plan.
So now, I leave a note in the tote on top of the cushions
“Your momma doesn’t hunt here and she didn’t show up to pick up after you. Put the cushions back or buy more”. All the neighbors know I’m the smart arse that has the stands and left the note. They understand.
Same in your case, leave a note and they should understand. If you don’t know them, be polite the first time

Did you ask the land owner if it would pee him off? That seems easy.

What I would do is absolutely nothing.

My view when hunting private land is that I am a guest of the landowner. As such, I have always taken great care to avoid doing ANYTHING that might make it appear as if I was getting above my station. Any stands I put up or improvements I made were to be used by anyone the landowner saw fit because, after all, it still WAS his land.

For all you know, the person who was using your blind was the landowners favorite nephew Filbert. The apple of the landowner’s eye, the nephew who can do no wrong. The last thing I would want to do is leave a nasty-gram sign in the stand and have Filbert mention to his uncle that maybe the guy hunting here is getting a little uppity and should move on down the road if he’s going to get all uptight about somebody sitting in “his” chair on Uncle’s land.

IMO you have a very good situation there and I would do nothing to make waves over such a minor thing.
