Hunting boot laces

I bought a new pair of Danner hunting boots last January and I’ve been very satisfied with them this week while hunting. Comfortable, fully water proof, durable.

Except the laces. The laces won’t stay knotted. This is the third pair I’ve tried now. Can someone recommend boot laces that stay knotted for a long period of time? Thanks

Dumb question but do you double knot them. Work boots run the same way I noticed. But after a hand full of double knots and some wear they break in.

I allmost always double knot hunting and work boots and never have an issue. I do know that round laces tend to come untied easier than flat ones tho.

Also have a newish pair of danner un- insulated boots I wear bird hunting that the laces are already shredded after only a couple seasons. I just keep an extra pair of laces with me in the truck in case they bust while hunting.

If you buy some red wings they will give you laces and oil your boots for the entire ownership of your boot free of charge. Their uninsured gortex are the best boot I’ve owned and I run insulated gortex in the winter. Great boots, not mistaken for Irish setters.

I have found that the round laces don’t stay tied sometimes even double tied, but flat laces stay tied better.

I used to have flat laces on my last boots that were Rockies. I need to try those flat ones on the Danners because they definitely stayed better.

The eye holes on the boots are very small though, the flats may not fit.

Gim, I’ve got a pair of danner sharptails and they require a double knot to stay tied.

    Same with my Danner Pronghorns.

I’m going to do some double knotting, try to wear these laces in, and see if that helps. In the meantime I might give some other versions a try too, like the ones candiru posted.

    Wingshooters, by chance?

I really want to like my wing shooters but I just can’t. I gave them 2 hunting seasons to try and like them but they’re just too heavy. I put on a lot of miles over grouse and pheasant season and that requires a lighter boot.

Curious what boots you run? I’m a pretty lithe guy who runs lightweight kits and never noticed my wingshooters as heavy, but I don’t have much to compare them to other than muck boots or hiking boots.

And agree on a double knot. Use with rounded laces. Rounded laces are easier to untie.

I do love my high top wingshooters. Comfy right out of the package. Last 2 seasons then toast. On my 3rd pair. Always open to other suggestions.

There are many YOU Tube videos on ways to tie your laces so they will not come undone. I don’t know how to explain which method I use but the laces never come untied and stay tight.

It’s as simple as a lightly tied double knot. Same one you’d teach a small child

I prefer waterproof trail shoes for upland hunting for this reason. They won’t last multiple seasons, but I have a cycle for my shoes once they reach a certain age anyway. By year two they become hunting or beater shoes for yard work, etc. That and it seems like I have more agility and less noise when walking in the woods.

I double knot my Danners too and that helps. THey still come undone but its a rare occurrence now. I am about to send them off to be recrafted because I dont like any of the new boots out there. They are not built at all like the ones I have. The soles are absolutely shot, but overall still in good shape otherwise. These are lace to toe boots which are dang hard to find and not a molded sole which almost every boot has these days.

I also have the high top wingshooters. I thought the higher tops would have more ankle support but I roll my ankle almost every time I’m out grouse hunting in those boots when I’m bushwhacking off trail. Never have that issue with my danners or other boots, just the wingshooters. Like I mentioned above, they’re also a quite heavy boot when compared to similar alternatives and I have the non-steel toe version.

Most laces are nylon and you need to pull hard on the solid end of the lace after you make the bow. This seems to land it works.ock the laces and not come open unles they hook on something or you pull on them.

I used this trick in the military for over 30 years!

Haha. I actually thought of this but they won’t fit through the eye holes of the boots.

I wax the round laces on my daily shoes. I double tie my hunting boots.
They definitely make round laces that stay tied. As an example none of my Keen laces come untied easily and they are round.

I was able to find a pair of flat laces that fit through the eye holes and I’ve also been double knotting them since. Both of these seem to have solved the problem. Thanks a bunch
