Hunting blind color?

I recently got into October deer hunting with a crossbow and ground blind? Question some blinds are greener then others? Others are a tan camo. When it comes to deer how important is color?

Since deer are color blind I’d worry more about a solid color vs a camo design to help break up the shape or mass.

This and spray some UV killer on. The science isn’t all there but it won’t hurt.

Fabric choice is key in my experiences. I have a few, and here are some random things I found.

My oldest “minute man” is a thin canvas. When new, it was awesome, material and camo pattern blended perfectly. As it aged, the canvas got well faded and became more like a white bright spot. Once faded, deer and turkeys come out in the field, turn and stare at it. They know something isn’t right.

Some of the waterproofing and materials are super shiny when the sun hits them. I can spot my neighbors in his field when the sun is out at about 1200 yrds away with the naked eye. Can only imagine what deer can see at 300 yrds

I have a shappel Treehouse 360 that has served me the best so far. Its fading very slowly, not reflective, and blends in very easily to multiple backgrounds. I like more browns than greens for over-all camo. Easier to hide.

Bingo. I use the uv inhibitor on all of my orange when its new. It lasts for a few years and helps offset its cost, but the stuff works. The inhibitor spray may also be sold as a “blue blocker”.

IMO just as important to keep light out of the inside of the blind so deer can’t see in, especially if you’re trying to keep one screen down so you don’t have to shoot through it. I don’t think most people are as invisible in a blind as they think because if light is coming in through the side, they are lit and if you watch (and the deer ARE watching!) through the windows, you can often see people inside move around.

Color? A square of blaze orange on each side is my standard color choice. Sure one wants to be hidden from game animals. But at the same time, I want other hunters to know I’m there. Someone taking a random shot may not see or recognize a well blended in ground blind.

OK, followup question? What about shooting a crossbow bolt, through the screen? Anyone try it?

Green camo blind with brush in and around it was fine, they were aware of it but didn’t seem to spook them to much. Had a couple of small does stop by but I passed on them for a biggie. Will try again this weekend. Corn and beans are still up. Didn’t see one scape or rub.
