For years I have been shooting Thompson Center 250 grain shockwave bullet. I have been impressed with the accuracy, but not impressed with the blood trails.

Looking for a bullet that will produce better blood trails with the same accuracy.

I shoot the same thing and I’m thinking of trying the bonded shockwave bullets. All the 250 grain shockwaves I’ve shot deer with have come apart in the deer. The lead bullet seperats from the copper jacket then seems to fragment. I shoot 2 50 grain pellots of triple sevan and the 250 grain shockwave and the bullet rarely seams to exit the deer. Usually ends up just inside the skin on what should be the exit side. I’m thinking if the bullet stayed together it would exit the deer wich would greatly improve the blood trail.

I shoot the cheap shot sabots from T/C in 240 gr.
One thing I think about the sabots with the ballistic style tips is they pass through a deer too quickly and without breaking up. The cheap shot is a pure lead sabot and will break up when it hits the animal. There is no problem with any blood trail with these bullets.
As far as accuracy- no problems with my Omega. At 100 yds i will hit a stationary clay pigeon about 80% of the time. The other 20% are my fault!
Another bonus is they are much cheaper than any other sabot.
    Good luck!

OK, When I first got into It I to was was using TC brand of sabots. I made the switch the a 250gr Hornady SST, and couldn’t find much to complain about them. Here is a link to the site. http://www.hornady.com/store/50-Cal-Sabot-Low-Drag-with-45-Cal-250-SST-Bullet/

I made the switch to Lightfield Alpha Gold 300 is a .50 caliber, 300 grain, saboted spitzer boat tail. I love these bullets I plan to use these for a while!! here is a link to the site. http://www.tarhunt.com/Store/category.aspx?cid=98 I hope this helps you a little bit!

Same boat here Dan. The doe I killed last year with the muzzleloader I just drilled. She took off across a snowy green-field and I had just a few drops when she entered the next woodlot. That and she still wasn’t down when I found her 30 minutes later.

Looking for a muzzleloader sabot which performs as well as some of the shotgun sabots out there. At the same time, I know many are the exact same bullet.

I have had no issues with the TC 250 grain Shockwave bullets. I was using 150 grains of powder. This bullet has cleared 2 deer for me and there was no tracking at all. Dead on the spot.

One was a 40 yard shot and the other approx 60-70.

    Maybe just lucky.

Ive dropped many deer on the spot with the shockwaves and most others didn’t go far at all, But Ive shot alot of deer with them that the bullet did not exit. I only shoot 100 grains of 777 though so maybe I’ll have to try 150 grains. And as far as the shockwaves they brake up bad Ive never found one still in a deer that was intact. If you hit bone with them the jacket seperates from the bullet and the lead core brakes into peices. Here is a pic of a TC 250 grain schock wave that was against the skin on the exit side of the deer my son shot on friday. He was shooting 100 grains of 777 The shot was about 35 yards the deer was quartering to him and the bullet hit a rib on the way in and would have exited behind the last rib on the off side. The deer dropped on the spot and was instintly dead.

I have shot several deer with the shockwaves…all double lung and one heart shot. All were complete pass thru, exit hole same size as entry with little to no blood. Granted the deer (all does) didn’t go too far (the farthest one went 60 yards) I don’t want to lose a deer because there is no blood trail.

Just picked up some Hornady XTP 185 gr bullets in 45 cal and will use them with the 50 cal Thompson Center Super glide sabots. Will give a report later in the season on their accuracy and knock down power. A guy from Scheels has been using this setup for years.

Thanks for the warning, but why would I be in the woods? Is it fall turkey season already?
