I have never had any large food plots to monitor and the principle of these seems awesome but I have not heard any of you mention these types of cameras. Wondering if they work well, if you can zoom in pretty well and if it’s a pain in the to go through weeks worth of footage? Anybody used one? Love it or hate it? Thanks.

I was just looking the Primos DPS system yesterday. The software that comes with it looks like it saves a lot of time running through tons of pictures. May be something to consider for your application.

That seems right except it would still take 42 minutes to see two weeks! That is a lot of time but probably the only way to do it without placing 3-4 cameras on a field edge? Thanks for the link.

They aren’t too bad. You can’t really zoom in to the extreme of a typical trail cam but it is the best tool by far for monitoring food plots. I see a lot more things on the watcher than on my cameras. The picture capture is pretty wide and you catch sooooo much more that would be out of the sensor trip of a regular camera. I never let it go longer than 4 days before reviewing footage. I plan on getting 2 more this fall.

Are you using the primos dps specifically? Thanks for the info.

I have the Plotwatcher by Day 6. I bought a couple when the rep brought them around 2 springs ago.

I was taking a look at these types of cameras a few days before you made this post todders. Interest and your post got the best of me today, I bought 2 of them. I got a plotwatcher by day 6 outdoors and a plot stalker by moultrie. Im pumped to see how they work. There seems to be instant pluses and minus to each after I got them both set up today though. Both come with viewing software; Day6 requires windows for viewing and set up for custom settings, moultrie setup is very straightforward and simple on camera. Day6 has 6 preset 5 or 10 second picture/sleep mode options plus a custom option, moultrie has 10s 30s 1m 5m 10m 15m 30m 1h 3h 6h and 1d options with infinite options for ‘sleep mode’, also has video mode. Day6 uses USB flash drives which are way cheaper than the sd cards used by the moultrie ($45 for a 16 gb card today). Day6 is about the size of a cuddeback attack only half as thick, and the moultie is about the size of two cuddeback flashes stacked on top of each other. I will try and get more info up after I have viewed footage from both

I was just doing some more digging into this topic. It appears Bushnell also has this ability in the new 8MP Trophy cams. They have a software for reviewing.

You’re right Looty – the new 2011 “Black Flash” cameras have time lapse capablities. I have few of these cameras now and will be testing this functionality soon.

Personaly I think it would be more of a harvest tool than a early season scouting tool. I hate have to go into pull chips but FOR ME they would be worth thier wait in gold the week prior to gunseason and during when I could set them on spots the day before while hunting a different farm then reveiw them the next morning to decide on the evening stand location. Last year I sat the same farm 3 of my 4 days of gun seasons and never saw an animal!! Sure would have been nice to know they werent useing the feild!!(or that some DB got dropped off on the road and pushed my honey hole to his property!!!) my closed farm is 6 miles from my house but ALL the rest are over 100 miles away! I cant get into check them often enuff.

I would own a couple if I didnt have 3 moultries crap out on me this summer!! Currently saving funds for a couple more cams before season opens.

Well flatlandfowler? When do we find out how they work? If fleetfarm had the dps I would have bought one the day this post was up . Excited to hear what you think of them.
Bob, you are welcome up there anytime, including now if you want to watch a field edge from sun up to sun down .

Todders- I pull cards on Sunday afternoons. I bought them both last friday and got the Moultrie out Friday night. I pulled the Moultrie card on Tuesday night and set the Day6 the same day. My brother and I, as well as alot of my freinds run Macs, so I am limited in time (outside the work environment) to run the software to make these cams manageable. Im hoping tomorrow or Monday I will be able to view the footage and get some info up.

Kooty made a great suggestion to me. He offered to help me upload the files I capture onto Youtube and then here. That way you guys can view the actual footage and make a decision on your own, instead of banking on the words of another. Thats awesome in my book. Guys like that offering help and advice is what makes me call IDO home (So thats the ultimate goal Todders, get some solid review/footage up for you guys to utilize).
