Not with a 3.83 ERA. The bad thing is Ben and CC are both free agents after this year and there has been talk about both of them being gone next year. I hope it isn’t true I like Ben as our #1 man in the rotation. I will make a prediction though….the Crew will have a 2 game lead in the NL Central by the end of July. It is our turn to stay at home while the Cubbies spend most of their time on the road.

This move is all about this year, they will both be gone next year in all reality for a team like the Brew Crew. His ERA is around 2.20 for the last 6 weeks, plus now he is playing on a winning team. For us life long Brewer fans this is bigger than ’82 when we traded for Don Sutton, only Sutton was pretty much at the end of the line, Sabathia is in his Cy Young award winning prime. Puts more than a little pressure on the Cubbies…..
July 7, 2008 at 12:53 pm #697355I think this was as big a move for the Twins, Sox, and Tigers as it was for the Crew. Thanks Guys for taking him our of the Central.
I wonder if they looked at the Twins and said well if they can trade their Ace why can’t we? SUCKERS!!!!
July 7, 2008 at 1:02 pm #697356In all reallity guys this does seriously look to be a move of desperation to try and keep the Crew from free falling out of the wild card hunt. Maybe CC can turn it around the second half the year time will tell.
July 7, 2008 at 1:15 pm #697358actually … the cubs just finished their toughest road stretch of the season, playing 23 of 32 away from wrigley, winning 17, and will play the next 19 of 29 at home – 4 of those in milwaukee at the end of the month.
sabathia is a great pickup for the brewers, who had better top-flight prospects to offer than the cubs.
should be a great 3 team central race the rest of the way between the cubs, cards and brewers with the wild card likely going to the runner-upJuly 7, 2008 at 2:43 pm #697389Well the Crew does play 17 games at home in the month of July including 4 against the Cubbies, while the Cubbies have only 10 games at home the month of July. Plus Gallardo says he’ll be back in Sept. That may be just wishfull thinking for him, but the rest of the NL better hope it is anyway. Go Crew !!!

Huh? the Crew has the best record in baseball over the last month and a half. They tied the Cards for the WildCard LEAD yesterday, and got to 10 games over .500 for the first time. Desperation? Turn things around???? The Crew turned things around in Mid May, have you been asleep???
The thing about this trade is, for once, the Crew is buyers, not sellers, and they are taking a shot when the window of oppurtunity is here.
July 7, 2008 at 3:18 pm #697410ya I bit my tounge after i posted that i was int he mind set they were still 6 or 7 games back…I looked after and they are 3.5 games back now had no idea there I thought it was going to be another Cubby vs. st louis run again for the top spot…..my bad there….How long are the Cards without Pujos I have not heard any updates there for some time.

The Cubs play 21 of there last 25 on the road (at the end of the season), the Brewers are just about the opposite that is were the Central will be won in my opinion, also speaking of schedules the Brewers have had 4- 3 city road trips the first half of the year including two 10 game trips. I don’t know who made there first half schedule but they did the Crew no favors and they are still only 3.5 games out
The Brewers are so stocked on the farm they could make another move like this one and still have plenty left over for the fututre
July 7, 2008 at 5:42 pm #689266yup, i know the cubs are on the road a lot in september, but its 16 of the last 25, according to the schedule i have, a little better than 21 of 25.
cubs need to pad their lead with all their home games in august.
the schedules all even out in the end.July 7, 2008 at 9:50 pm #697496well.. the brewers should stick to brewing and drinking beer.. just like the cardinals…
Id say they painted themselves into the corner.. this IS the cubs year.. the brewers know all about how to choke.. and precious little about how to win it all…. now they have given up their future too.. so they loose this year.. and slide right to the bottom shortly afterwards… well.. did I mention they should be drinking lots of beer?
oh.. and did I also mention that the brewers are the new cubs? and I think you KNOW what that means… but if your still around in 100 years… yippee…. they will win the world series…bigpikePosts: 6259July 7, 2008 at 11:10 pm #697518Quote:

Right on bro
July 7, 2008 at 11:20 pm #697521well as a cubs fan.. I know how to drink beer too… its the only thing that kept me going for 50+ years… so maybe they win it all this year… but if they dont.. there is still lots of beer to drink.. guess I better not make the brewers or the cardinals toooooo mad… or they wont send any my way… and I just gotta stop drinking foreign beer…. its not the way of the future! drink US beer…. and keep it here…
bigpikePosts: 6259July 7, 2008 at 11:26 pm #697525Actually it will be interesting to see what the counter move for the Cub’s will be, I think you are correct in saying that they do think it is there year and now here the Brewers are coming on stong, 30-15 in the last 45 games. Best record in baseball the last month and a half, shaved off 5 games from the lead over them and now they trade for the one available super stud pitcher on the market. The Cubs will have to give up someone on there 40 man roster to make a move close to the Brewers and that would weaken them in other area’s, they just don’t have the minor league prospects at this time…..
July 8, 2008 at 1:15 pm #697633Before you Cubbies and Brewer fans start celabrating a world series title just remember you have to catch the ball, which neither team does very well.
CC just adds interest for the rest of the year in the NL.
bigpikePosts: 6259July 8, 2008 at 4:22 pm #697698As a Brewer fan I will be happy to just make the wild card and take it from there, there has been to much snake bit luck on this franchise to stick out my chest and say world series or bust. Hey there is enough room in the playoffs for the Brewers and the Cubs under the current playoff format, then we will see were a 1-2 punch like Sabathia and Sheets will gets us. Also the Brewers are still a young growing team, but there Defense while not the best in the NL is very much improved with the growth of there own players and the signings of Jason Kendall behind the plate and Mike Cameron in center field. Much much improved over last year……we have a real GM and a top notch scouting department that put us in a position to trade for a guy like Sabthia that is what is so exciting for Brewer fans- Watching all this home grown talent blossom and shrewd moves made buy our front office. Not since Harry Dalton have we had such a good GM like Melvin. Not to speak of a great owner vs. the rudderless ship that this franchise was under Bud Selig….
July 9, 2008 at 2:58 am #496902guess the Cubs didnt wait long to respond…. I dont really know anything about Hardin…. cept that he gets hurt a lot…. but they guys they dumped.. well.. I think THEY were going to be good in a year or two… *sigh*
bigpikePosts: 6259July 9, 2008 at 3:36 am #495924This is awesome the Central is really heating up!@!! Harden is a #1 on most teams and you are correct in saying he is injury prone, 6 times in 6 years on the D.L. The Cubs returned an answer fast and swift. CC pitched great tonight, 2 earnys in 6 innings. He was more than a little amped up. Braun gave us a lift with a three run jack….. ….the Brewers sold the 17,000 available seats for this game in less than 12 hours
