Found a good deal on these scopes they have the bdc 200 reticle supposedly set up for shotguns shooting sabot slugs. If anyone uses one how close is the bdc to your slugs impact. With so many diferant slug brands and loads out there I just don’t know how well it would match up balisticaly unless it was made for a certain slug load.

I dont see why you would need a bdc reticle in a shot gun that has a max distance of about 100-150 yards. I love the nikon scopes that i have, but their lower end scopes are horrible in low light, plus you through in all that jazz with the lines and circles you cant see anthing. I have the omega muzzleloading scope for sale, for the reasons i just stated.

I love my slug hunter, i dont use it for shotgunning though, i use it for muzzle loading, and i havent tested it on the 50 cal , but on my 45 itwas dead on to 150 with the cross hait and the first bdc was acurate for right around 220, but my patten went to [censored] after that so i never used the bottem reticle. great scope if you can ge a sizeable discount, mine gathers light better than my buddys 500$ fire fly scope!!

I’ve seen people on the range with a good slug gun shooting really good groups out to 250 and beyond. I know the drop from 50 to 250 or more is a lot. I’m not sure how well you could place a good shot without a BDC scope.

I don’t beleive slugs are maxed out at 100 to 150 yards. I have a cheaper simmons 3-9 on my remington 870 super slug and off sand bags I have a 3 shot group about the size of a quarter. I found a Nikon slug hunter in camo that matches my gun for $180 new. I decided to go ahead and order it for that price it’s worth seeing how I like it. I have a nikon monarch 4-16 by 42 on my savage 17 hmr and am very happy with that scope. I’ll post results after I get it and test it out at the range. Thanks for the input.

I dont know how you can ethically take a shot at a deer with a slug gun at 250 yards. Sure its fun to poke at the range, but lets be realistic. At the distance the chance of a kill shot is slim to none, the loss of energy is so great and not to mention the wind blowing the chunk of lead side to side.

Back when I ended my slug hunting I was shootin sabots that were flat to 100 in the 3 inch load, and they were all copper You will be happy with your purchase, some dialing around with sabots and time on the range should have you make 3 inch groups at 150forsure Good luck and safe shootin

ballistics of the Federal Barnes Expander at 250 yards is:
    Energy: 1004 ft pounds
    Velocity: 1174 ft/sec.
Drop: 20″ drop, when zeroed at 150 yards.

Look it up and try it out. It is real…

I don’t know how this is not adequate for dropping a deer. I’ve done it at 220 yards with a doe. She didn’t go 30 feet as I passed the slug clean through the heart.

You have to know what you have and what you are shooting.
Most people don’t realize that a .308 is truly effective at 800 meters for a “clean shot”. I’ve personally, successfully hit my target at 800 meters with a .308 and it is done quite frequently in match shoots, as well as Military applications.

Do yourself a favor and check out the TRUGLO red dot scope, I put one on my Remington 870 and I love it!!! I dropped three does with it last year, the big difference between the red dot and a regular scope is you do not lose deer in the red dot like you can a regular scope because you keep both eyes open. I got mine for around $100.

I started shooting the Federal Barnes Expander last year with my Remington 870 and man do those slugs do some damage! The pics are what the slug looks like after impact, I was shooting Federal Premium Sabot Slugs 2 3/4″ but after shooting the Expander I will never go back to anything else. I am also going to start using the Federal Barnes Expander in my muzzle loader this year as well.

I have the Nikon and love it . Its on my 20ga Ithica with fully riffled barrel . It is Deadly accurate at 140 yards. For longer shots I prefer it over a Aim Point or a red dot scope. I would recommend it to anyone . Just for the fact that a red dot covers to much of the animal at longer distance. But they are fine in the brush an close range
