    Hey guys,
SO, I’ve been using the same SD cards in two of my cameras for 2 years now. This summer, Instead of checking the pics on my digital camera I put the SD cards into my computer to take a look. SInce then the camera sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t and I’m pretty sure I need to do some type of reformatting of the cards. Do you know how I do this? I have no clue. Thanks!

I’ve never formated my cards for any of our cameras. Even when I buy new ones. I pull them, cut all the pics and paste to my pc. The card is then empty and I replace it. I see on a couple of our cameras in the setup mode, you can format them if you want though I’ve never done it.

It’s best to format them from a computer even if the cam has a format feature. Try the cam first, it may work just fine. If you need to use the computer: double click my computer, right click your SD card, click format. Check the manual for your camera to see what format it accepts. My guess is FAT32 but check with the manual.

on my moultrie cameras I have to clear the internal memory before i put my card in or i have the same problem. the only other time i have had issues is when i forget to shut the camera off when changing cards

Format on the computer after each dump. That’s the first thing Bushnell and a host of other trail camera companies will tell you when trying to troubleshoot any camera issues. Whether or not it’s true, I’m not sure, but they feel strongly that many issues are card-related and a computer re-format (quick-format option is fine) is a healthy habit to learn. The tech I talked to on the phone a few weeks ago required me to test problems/issues while having a Sandisk card in as well. That said, I’ve never had an issue with PNY, Duracell, Kingston, and a host of other cards.

If you were going to delete all the pics on a card anyway, the re-format accomplishes the same task and is pretty simple. I just do it after I transfer all my pics to hard-drive and they’re ready to go back into cameras.
