    What is your budget?

Rob and I are using a Sony PD-170 (mini DV) this year. Sometimes you can get them used on craigs list or ebay for a reasonable price.

I love my Gl2 but I purchased it from bestpricecameras.com but beware they have now become a scam! Great camera though, we can film past legal shooting time most nights. beware of online scams !

I was hoping for 1500 or less but may consider more if it is worth the money. Would I be best off to go to my local radio shack?

B&H Photo & Video is where I have gotten 95% of our stuff. Good Prices and a solid reputation that is hard to find when ordering over the internet. You get what you order.
