    Guys,
I am having a difficult time finding any validity to the new law (I have heard it is passed) that states that you don’t need a case on a long gun in MN anymore. I can find the bill but nothing more and I don’t feel like reading the entire thing. Does anyone have any more information on this? My co-worker says it passed but I can’t believe it has. I am not trying to start a debate on what’s right or wrong and will still use a case but just curious.

    Thanks,
    Brent

Call the DNR. Straight from the horse’s mouth.

Its not as simple as saying you dont need a case anymore..It is true if you are hunting and going from spot to spot hunting, your bow or long gun can be uncased in a vehicle or on atv….but there are many many many “if’s” and exceptions that go along with the law…You still must have it cased in many town and townships…Im not going type anymore as its a law and if I parap. something its in black and white for someone to jump down my throat if its parap’d wrong. But like stated Call your local DNR, Police, or Sheriffs Dept or look it up on line and make yourself aware of the exact law so you dont get spanked…We have already been dealing with this law at work and its a great deal if you can take time to know the new law…Good luck and take the time being on hold to get the exacts…Jay

thats a big one for duck hunting… that means you dont have to case your shotty to run down a cripple. with the way my old man shoots, i have to do that a couple times…

If your driving from one hunting spot to another and not passing through a town or restricted area you dont need to case it. When in doubt just case it. The ONE circumstance this could apply to me is grouse hunting national forests where you never leave the gravel. However I doubt I will even exercise this new right since:

    1. I’m accustomed to casing my firearm
    2. Firearm safter when traveling in case.
    3. Protects firearm from damage.
    4. The extra 3 seconds it takes me to remove from the
case is not going to matter.(I dont plan on
getting into a quickdraw “showdown” with any animals.

Maybe with this new law I will leave the zipper cracked..
