Nikon is offering a $50 Rebate right now on their 42 mm ATB binoculars. These are great bino’s for the money and a little easier to swallow then some of the other high end brands. Now Nikon just made it $50 easier. I think these binos now range from around $225 to $260 now, depending on Model. That is a great deal for a good quality binoc. I also believe these Monarch ATB’s qualify for the 25 Year No Fault Warranty.

That I have used once already. Team that up with Cabelas spend $500 and receive $150 free, you are getting one heck of deal. IMO the 42mm is the perfect size for Bow Hunting. Big enough Glass to let in ample light, yet light weight enough to wear with a harness and not even know they are there!

To top this off I just saw Cabelas had another sale on top of the $50 rebate they have a sale for a additional $50 off. Then they have a promotion if you spend $200 (cost of the Nikons) or more they give you $50 if you have a promotion card. So basically it gives you another $500 to spend after the initial purchase.

Used that promo offer last night

If you go to owatonna, better call ahead to make sure they restocked the shelves….

Hey, thanks for the heads up…

I think I’m going to take Nikon up on the offer next visit to Cabelas (a few weeks away…)

Which version would you guys recommend getting? the 8 power or the 10? I’m leaning towards the 8, but would be interested in your insight.

    Thanks again!

I have 2 pairs of the 10×42’s. I wish I would have gotten one pair as a 12. However, I do hunt out in the western Dakotas and it is nice to have a lil extra power when glassing out there. If needed I usually just pull out the spotting scope at that time though. If you are hunting in the woods mainly 8 would probably be just fine, but I would opt for the versatility of the 10’s.

    Whitt:

I’m with Rob, go for the 10’s. I’d only go for the 8’s if you’re in woods the majority of the time. Even then, esp. if you’re trying to size up a buck, count points, and determine shooters, the 10’s or better are nice.

I personally use binoc’s mostly for turkey hunting. For me, the more power the better, as FOV isn’t too big a deal when glassing birds in fields. I have however put a nasty good stalk on a hen before because the binocs made the bird look like it had a beard. Doh!

It’s all what you’ll use it for.

I’ve had my 10X42 ATBs for 8 years now w/o a hiccup. They are great binos!

Cabelas now offering $50 sale plus $50 mail in reabate – will cost $200 for the non-camo during this sale after all rebates. Since I bought mine last weekend ( !) I’m going to take the receipt back tomorrow and see if I can get the sale price / $50 bucks back.

It’ll work, they’ve done that exact thing for me in the past. Though I’ve heard they’re cracking down on return policy stuffs. Good luck!

Yup, they were very nice about it. Gave me $50 back on the credit card. Nice!

One thing that was weird, though – Regular price for the 10×42 black binocs that i bough last weekend was 300. According to the sale flyer, regular price for them this weekend was 320. So the return lady and i were a little stymied as to what exactly happened, but I suppose Cabelas raised the “regular” price up 20 bucks so they could have a $50 off sale (but actually only be out $30 off “reg. price”????) . Not sure if that was the case, but Either way I got the 10×42 ATB for $200 after instant rebate and mail in rebate. Overall, nice people to deal with at Cabelas.

Now that I’ve had them a few days, they are a nice set of binocs. One problem, however. The threaded pieces that connect the eyecups to the frame are made of plastic. I noticed this am that it is very cheap/flimsy plastic – in fact, mine were already stressed/cracked before I even tried to adjust them. One eye cup screws on/off ok, but is still cracked in a number of places. The other one won’t even engage the screws. You think they could have used heavier plastic and/or metal for that piece?

Not happy about that. Going to give Nikon a call today and see what they say… Otherwise, it might be another trip back to Cabelas…

Unfortunate design flaw on other cheaper binocs too. Wait till you get sand in there from belly crawling during turkey season! Chews those threads right up and they crack worse. Was going to look into those, but will examine those eyepieces more carefully.

For $200 (after rebates), they seem like decent glass on a nice compact frame.

I’m sure they cut corners where they can, though, and the plastic eyecup pieces looks like one of those cuts. I emailed Nikon, we’ll see what they say. I’m hoping they’ll just send me some new eyecup pieces, but I won’t hold my breath.
