i am looking to get a deer cam. but i really don’t know a whole lot about them. i will but it manly on the edge of fields and maybe if i can get a good slat lick going again this year over that. i only want one but i want one that i don’t have to worry about the batteries dieing after a day of being but out. i don’t know anything about deer cams like i said before. the questions that i would kinda like to know would be, inferred or flash? Brand? Type? Price? and your luck with different cameras.

    Thanks for all your help,

    Chris.

Chris, I have purchased alot of different brand cameras. I can tell you my experiences with some of them. I started with a Buckshot 35, 35mm film camera with a flash it worked great but I got antsy to get a digital so I purchased a leaf river digital with a flash, I got alot of pictures of deers rumps walking by the camera, it was to slow to put out on trails (the “PROS” say to point it at a 45 degree angle to the trail for better results, that did work a little better sometimes I could even see the front shoulder but would rarely get a centered up pic.} Next I purchased a cuddeback flash, it was great out of the box sweet pics and the battery life was great, I am getting 2 to 4 months on a set of batteries. I kept that camera and puchased 3 aqua view infared cameras, one word JUNK. I tried my buddies leaf river infared to see how that worked, he liked it but it had a delayed trigger and not very good night pics. I bit the bullet and purchased the Cuddeback infared. It takes good pics during the day bu as with all infared the night pics were fairly poor, I purchased this camera to put in by my hunting stands to find out what was there, so the flash didn’t spook them. The battery life is about the same as my cuddeback flash If I was going out to buy one trail camera tonight I would buy the cuddeback flash it gives you great pictures day and night and the battery life is one of the best out there. I have not tried out the Reconx cameras but I hear they are nice cameras. I hope this jibber jabber helps a little bit, i wish I would have had more info when I was buying. Oh well live and learn.

I have 2 cameras, actually 2 of each The Cuddeback NoFlash’s and Moultrie D40’s. The Cuddes are not cheap, the Moultries I got on sale at $69 from MidwayUSA. The first 2 pic’s are the Cudde NoFlash and the other 2 are from the Moultries. As mentioned, the Flash cameras have much better night pictures. Have fun shopping

now is it true that if you have a flash you don’t want to but it in the woods/ or a tails due to the fact that it will spook deer. is that true or false, i will properly put it in front of my stand and if that is the case i don’t want to have them spooked away BTW them pictures help me out.

Chris, I don’t think anyone can say “Flash does not spook deer” in my opinion, it spooks some, most are not bothered. I believe it is much like a deer in the headlights, most will stand and stare, and it doesn’t seem to bother them…. very few, if any, will be spooked by it. Then again, I never put a trail camera right by my stand. I like to put them on trails leading to and from my stands, to see what and when they are moving. I cannot comment on battery life for the Moultries yet, but my Cuddebacks seem to last from late July, to around September… once it gets cold out, I am changing about every month. It hinges alot on how many pictures it takes also, but when I first got my Cudde, I would have 200 pics in 1 week, mostly the same deer over and over Now that I have learned how to set-up a little better, I take maybe 30-50 pics a week Have fun with this !!! It’s like buying a new bow !!!
