Today I saw a pileated woodpecker flying across Radio Dr in the middle of Woodbury. And then another one behind it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pair of them before.
Are the females marked the same as the males?
I had to look it up: the male has a red streak on its face. I couldn’t tell you what they were this morning.
Yeah, there is a subtle difference in male/female pileateds–the red moustache on the males. Tough to distinguish without a good look.
I just got my first couple hummingbirds a few days ago
The hummingbirds are crazy up here in itasca cty. 
Put the feeders up a week ago yesterday. After day 4 I’ve had to fill at least 1 feeder a day. Several times I have had up to 7 hummingbirds swarm the same feeder.
I just can’t seem to get those little buggers attracted to my house. I’ve had my feeders out for a little over a week now and have not seen 1 yet. Using a new feeder that the wife really wanted. I may have to fill up a older traditional feeder and see if that helps.

yea personally I don’t think them fancy looking feeders are worth a crap, but it’s getting tough to find good old plain Jane feeders nowadays.
Big numbers in northern MN now.
The ones we have down in the cities have seemingly vanished. Likely on the nest me thinks.
