There was a thread discussing these units about 2 weeks ago. Everytime I post a link to it, it comes up goofy. It is 3 pages back in the Ice Fishing thread.

Here was my take on the units:

The LX7/6 is a much better unit overall. The only thing the Helix 7 has over to LX7/6 is GPS capability. Target separation, cone angles and IR are all better on the LX7/6. The Helix also has some slight lag in response. Not a bad deal for open water, but can be a killer for finicky panfish through the ice…I’m on my second season with my Helix 5 and it was turned into a backup unit after the first outing with it. Contemplating mounting it via RAM mount to my ATV for GPS and occasional sonar use.

That’s all I need to know. Thank you for your response.

I have an LX6S and love it! However I’ve never had experience with the Helix. I have only ever used the LX5 previously. I love having 2 or 3 different views on the LX6S at once.

Yes Ice fishing is all I do, do to my job restraints. The unit has a lot of features are you looking for anything particular or jist in general? I can tell you it is fairly simple to operate, I get no interference around other units, if I do get any I just change frequency and that fixes it. I have heard complaints from people using it down south that the mapping doesn’t offer their particular lake but all the lakes i fish up here in ND it has. I have been out on very sunny days and even with sunglasses have no problem reading the screen. It comes with a quick bail mount and i bought an extra so I can just pop it off my atv, and pop it into my ice case no need to disconnect wires. Of ya have any other questions feel free to message me. Or my # is Six 05 77 zero 5760

I have a helix 7di, i used it on ice last season, both with the DIskimmer and ice ducer. It works ok. It’s definitely worth using if you have a hole that needs a sonar. The gen 1 helix 7 gps is incredibly slow to sync. It can take forever. Hopefully gen 2 fixes that? I’ve used my Bird 999 units in my truck and they perform far better gps wise. If you want to try a 4-seasons graph, I’d go with a Garmin.

I really like my Marcum. I downsized last season from the Lx7 to the Lx6s. I wasnt happy with the performance and hated the size. The smaller Lx6s package got me carrying it around more. With the latest update, i like it more and more. I recently tried a Lx5i a few times to remind me about that experience again; it’s been a while since I relied on the Lx5, so I wasn’t sure my perception about its performance was accurate any longer. It was, the unit rocks.
