Humminbird Helix 9 si issues

I am having trouble with clutter on my Humminbird Helix 9 si screen when I get in water deeper than 26′-30′ of water. I have been trying to find schools of crappies in deep water but from around 15′ to the bottom of the lake on the screen is just clutter. Is there a setting or color change I can try? I have tried adjusting the sensitivity, color scheme, etc. and nothing clears it up.

looks like interference. Isolate the source. Trolling motor, main motor or kicker motor. turn each off and run independently to determine the source first. is the battery for locator shared with anything else?

Thank you Gizmoguy, the locator is run off the main motor(90 hp Johnson) starting battery. Those are the only 2 things on there so I will try disconnecting the motor and see if that helps. The strange thing is it’s only when I’m in water deeper than 25′, anything less than that it works great. I had a Humminbird 859 di hooked up the same way last year and had no issues but understand each unit is different and may be more sensitive to interference.

I appreciate your help with this!

question,do you only see that noise on the screen with the motor running??
if so,and you are sure the connections are clean and tight.

the reason I ask is that if it only occurs with the motor running you may want to have the rectifier in the charging system checked,if it is weak or shot,it will allow A/C voltage into the D/C side of the system causing a lot of electrical ‘noise’ to be seen on the screen.

a lot of variables here,ie,location of transducer and trolling motor, are they close together?
is your livewell pump running off of your starting battery?
are all grounds clean and tight? including those to the motor and or hull?
transducer shot?? if you have another one plug it in and see what happens.

good luck !! let us know what you find.

Ditto with above and you’re on the right track. Had the same issue with my 597. Stopped running the trolling motor and it cleaned right up. Your mileage may vary
