anyone have any experience using the chart plotter on the humminbirds? I just bought a helix 8 and was hoping to make a better lake map of my lake as the navionics and DNR lake maps are way off. my question is, do I need to buy a chip to save the info onto, or will it stay in the unit when made. also can I put in any blank micro sd card to save this, or do I need to buy the zerolines sd card. I know it has a built in mapping software, but since I have not installed this on the boat, not sure on how detailed these are or if I can chart plot over this. any comments welcome good or bad on anything you heard.

You’ll need to buy their special Zero-Lines blank chip to make your own maps.

The Humminbird Lakemaster map cards are much better than Navionics or DNR maps, but they have so many different card options now that I find it confusing. Here’s a link to the V1 Minnesota card lake list.

I’d suggest going to a reliable bait shop to talk to someone who knows their stuff. Plenty of time to do that now since they won’t be real busy until ice-out.

This. You can Autochart up to 8 hours on your helix without a Zerolines card though.
